Any blues from Alabama?

I'll be travelling there during the first week of April and have no idea what to expect.

Seeking advice from fellow blues.

April shouldn't be too bad for temperature/humidity. The Gulf Coast down past Mobil should be quite pleasant with little chance of bad weather/storms. The Florida panhandle is just next door with some lovely beaches as well. There's nothing in the State Capital, Montgomery. I've only driven through Birmingham, but that was enough! Tuscaloosa was a good laugh - big college football town. Alabama always struck me as rural, red neck country but the locals (if you could understand them) were always very friendly. You need to keep your wits about you though.

I believe @toffeejack @Phenom @Kurt have all slept with their own relatives so may be able to offer some advice

They may have more to say about the social climate in Tennessee, Kentucky, or West Virginia. Maybe even Arkansas.

Some visitors suggest that Alabama has a slightly different feel...

Seriously though, @Axlswhk, where are you going? Mobile (Mo-Beeel) is different from Birmingham, etc.

Expect to drive everywhere. Everything's pretty sprawled out and public transit is weak in the South.

In my experience, people are friendly. They may be amused by your accent (and you by theirs), but any ribbing about that is probably in jest. Just avoid the topics of politics and religion and you'll probably be fine.

Your kids, is that what she told you?

LOL

She told me nothing, this charlatan did
