Too much? Or too little?

After a domestic flight this week, the palaver involved in transport to the airport, restrictions on toileteries, security queues that snake for miles and move soooooo slow, metal detectors that beep when you have no metal on you etc etc.

The question is, is it all a bit OTT, or do you feel looked after??

My experience left me feeling like I'd been processed like a number and treated with suspicion, rudeness, and general animosity by all those involved. When in fact, I am a customer to the airport and airline.

What does GOT think???

Answer on a SAE Envelope of course...

Ps: one thing that was clear to me, 'Fear' is a Trillion Dollar industry...

you are now in all kinds of databases as a result of 'security measures'

soon they will all be linked, and a sneaky weekend in the Netherlands will result in the std clinic contacting you on your return, the woman in the garage looking at you knowingly when you get some savlon, a bag of monster munch and a mars bar with your fuel, then just as you get your hoop on the settee the Sweeney will come through the door as you have been flagged for needing munch and been The 'Dam... so obviously hooked on drugs, they'll wear the chemical suits as well 'cos you are obviously riddled with the clap.

The fact that you are a 78 y.o. lady that went to see the bulbfields will be insignificant.

'Fear' is a Trillion Dollar industry...

The cynic in me thinks that this is the main driver for all this.

The company I work for has a contract under the eBorders initiative, which was ( they call it something else now ) for ports rather than airports. Money for old rope based on a Daily Fail induced panic of the chattering classes that some foreigners might be entering the country illegally. Those same illegal immigrants working in the black economy are servicing the same Daily Fail readership by working cash-in-hand no-questions-asked for the same same people who are scared sh*tless of immigrants. Fecking Daily Fail Hypocrites.

*steps off soap box, a tad dizzy

Coming back from Poland a couple of months ago i was waiting to go through the metal detectors.

Took all my things like wallet, belt and phone and put them in the tray, took my jumper off and tied it round my waste and thoguht everything was cool.

About to go through and the girl behind the scanner pointed at my waist, i thought she meant belt which i'd already took off and carried on. She then pointed angrily again at my waist before i realised she meant to undo my jumper from round my waist and put it in the tray.

Of course the big beef hunk of a security guard the other side thinks i'm being a bit dodgy so decides to give
me a good frisking down.

Twice. And i swear both times he deliberatly brushed my penis.

So yeah i'm all for it.

Dont give a ****. I will do whatever they want so I dont get blown up by a terrorist. They dont want water bottles on board? Fine. They want me to take all my metal out/ off? Fine. Pat me down? Fine. It takes like 5 minutes max.

You was flagged on the National system the day you paid for that belt with your card. When they start releasing homosexual spies on the East again you are well carrying a brolly.

Let it all out mate, I want to know what the people think.

Surely a supposed 'terrorist' would try and get a job in security at the airport or something. The world is induced by paranoia. Next time you go through security look at the dome cam in the ceiling, and watch the metal detector mysteriously beep as you walk through...

I'm just tryna get to where I'm going ffs, I don't get this crap on the train or on the motorway.

Anything to stop a 9/11. And anyway it's all political correctness. If the airport people had it there way they'd be looking for young Muslim men, thats just the way it is. But of course they can't be seen to single them out. So if they have to give everyone the same treatment so they prevent actual terrorists, then so be it. And of course Mr. Brievek showed that it isn't just Muslim men they need to be concerned about. I'm all for heightend airport security.

I think it's been ok on my travels this year, mind only been to Helsinki, Ho Chi Minh, some small island, Manchester and Istanbul airports. Prolly worse in Heathrow or the states.

This is very true. It's not a reason for not having airport security but :-

a ) The security checks on airport staff are minimal and
b ) A lot of airport staff are paid peanuts

Great combination.

Why is this ? Well, it's because security checks on people are expensive. A basic check, which essentially just confirms that someone is who they say they are, is all that the vast majority of airport staff gets, is about £70 and takes a few days to come through. The next level up is a few hundred pounds and takes weeks to process. The level above that is a few thousand and can take months for new applicants. Go figure.

all uk airports are the same mate, it's a standardised industry, as soon as they get a robot that you only have to walk past and it can detect what flavour bog roll you use, then all the rest will be down the job centre.

And I dont mean as concierges either.

"Technically" I think I'm still in America. I look forward to being bummed immensely by Customs next time I go back

I guess it has to be done, but I do feel on edge in an Airport, it's not somewhere I like spending my time, fact

It's all a bit much imo. I can totally understand all the safety measures that are taken, but surely it has to stop at some point. Last month, when I went through the security at Liverpool Airport. I had too take off my belt, watches, shoes and all the obvious before going through the detector. Everything was fine, no beep, nothing found. Went over to the counter to get my personal stuff back and one of the security staff comes over and tells me i've been selected for a routine search.

Wtf, are those detectors for. As you said Muggins, I'm a customer, maybe it's time they realise that and start treating us like one.
