after 10,000+ deaths, EU commits €3m to the latest natural disaster

So basically, you are upset because others are doing pretty much the same as you? Or actually, they are doing more than you. Donate 10 quid to the relief fund, it may help you feel better

it's more about how we live in a globalised society that still has extremely marginalised values (see the example of BT's Champions League contract being worth over 300 times more than the entire EU's financial commitment to a massive humanitarian disaster).

It's also about how the USA and UK can spend trillions on military projects which have no real value to society, that their undoubted skills and experience are not put to work where it's really needed most.

An globalised army using all the latest tech could do an effective cleanup and rescue job in such disasters. Never gonna happen, tho', as the powers that be see no benefits.

It's not about making me feel better if I donate a tenner, that's missing the point.

I am liking so of those points.

Nice one, Carlos kid.

Everyone else is making good points too, in fact they're more realistic than my idealistic, maybe even polemic, ideas here.

But hey ho, we can at least try to make sure our own little circle of world is doing fine, spread the word, and hope the rest of the world eventually catches on.

Now and then you get the odd individual who's influential enough to really get things moving. Ghandi and Malcolm X spring to mind, but recently I'm not sure if we've had anyone like that.
