Just wondering when does this compeition start? And also does anyone know if we HAVE to let players go to compete in it or is it upto them?

It starts in January, and we will lose Yakubu, Yobo, and Anichebe if fit.
Pienaar plays for S Africa, and they didn't qualify.
Yes, players have to go unless they are injured etc.

Hence why we shouldn't be wasting pitch time with Yakubu at the moment, as he might get fit, only to leave us in January. I'd prefer for him to play fit in the reserves and push with Aggard or Baxter instead so we have warmed up fire power in what is a very difficult period for us in 2010.

Yak is a shadow of his former self...I heard he was playing well and scoring in the reserves...if it was bringing him back to form then you are right.

Im more worried about Yobo leaving. I think Moyes was as well hence the reason we bought Lucas Neill / Johhny Heitinga...however with our injury toll they have been forced to fit in elsewhere. Im guessing we will be in for a defender in January. Upson or Cahill please.

I'm not even sure Moyes had a plan regarding these 2 for central defense.
I would have prefered he bought Taylor from Newcastle, but Moyes was banking on Jags coming back in, so thought he had options with Distin and Heitinga, which he has, but Distin isn't for the future, and we will not get a resale on him.
Neil was certainly not in his plans, but an opportunity.

Yeah i agree. Distin is terrible in my opinion. He is a poor man's Yobo....he clocks off way to often.
What sort of re-sale value would Steven Yarddog Taylor have? They wanted stupid money for him and hes really not all that good.

I don't think he's terrible at all, but he's not got many years left in him at the top level, hence why he isn't for the future.

Taylor is only 23 m8 so had a lot of developing time on his side.
I'm not sure exactly what price it was, but it rose as we stalled. Infact it went from 4 mill to 8. Not huge money really.
We needed somebody for now, we dont have time while players develop.

Why play Rodwell, and also why buy Fellaini even?

Billy is already a player, he just needs time to settle. I agree, why buy Fellaini? Hes playing Rodwell cos he has nobody else.
He needed a replacement for Lescott, somebody that would fit into the team, Distin was perfect, he will come good.
