Makes me sick.

We could stay there for 50 years and the day we leave the Afghans will set up exactly as they always have done. You can't change hundreds of years of tribal disputes and loyalties with dollars and ballot boxes.

The majority consider Karzai a puppet and his regime wont last 6 months once were out, we are genuinely achieving fcuk all there.

I dunno, the UK and most of the Western world managed okay.

The UK has now lost 430 good men, just try counting them and try putting a face to each number, for a bleeding country that has not changed in 500 years. If the yanks really wanted to punish them we should have just carpet bombed them and been done with it....

Ruining the harvest of the poppy fields for a few years would have done ten times the damage and have seen the Taliban done away with in one felled swoop.

People like wars though. Especially people who live in white houses.

Afghanistan isn't a country, it is a group of countries. It just hasn't been split up to allow regional sovereignty. It has been a war zone ever since its boundaries were established, and could in some arguements be considered the first trial of multiculturalism.

Had the place been allowed to settle with much less outside involvement it might not have required policing like it does/has. But certain countries with certain political ideologies used it to play tit-for-tat games with each other, militaristic, financial, and narcotic. It is a political no-mans-land and those responsible will never be held to account. Dragged into yet another Vietnam, with no feasible exit, and no answers for the families on all sides as to why their loved ones have been massacred.

Olympics and Paralympics was good though ay.

Nothing to gain in Afghanistan either lad. And our troops sign up to serve Queen and country in the defence of our country. They still do whatever they are asked, for a fckng pittance I may add, and do it without complaint or striking over a bleeding golden pension. It's about time people in this country started to value our military......

Is there even 8 strategic targets in Afghanistan that would warrant the use of a single Trident missile???

(I am not serious, those missiles do their current job just fine.....deterrence)

Its gutting to hear when a British soldier dies, mate. I just turn off the TV straight away - I can't look, the same with the radio, I just turn it off. My late father is law did a full 5 year stint in ww2. Normandy into Berlin - he ended up guarding the Germans from the Russians. F**king British government wouldn't let him rest when he got back to London to start a family - they sent him his call up papers to Korea - he never went, but that's the attitude of these people in power. We need to get those men and women home now, and no more wasted lives.
