Not sure if you were taking the mickey like, but I'd very much doubt that having your gas meter in a warm room would increase the efficiency of your gas. In fact, I'd be fairly certain is doesn't. I'm not doubting your bills have dropped, but it wont be cause your meter is in a warm room.

In response to the OP, where abouts is your meter? is it just inside the door? does it have a cupboard that it sits in. You could, if cost was a real issue, just divert your pipes back outside and get the gas board to reposition your meter. You'd have to have a vented cover over the pipes that stil run inside,. but the space they take up will be greatly reduced. The work will needed to be completed and checked by a Gas Safe registered fitter/plumber. If you do not have the signed forms these days for any works completed after yo bought the house, Electrical work also, it could cause complications with any future sales.
You can do this with an internal/external extension lead.
