Advice for a 19 year old starting work

Morning lids and lidettes - My missus has a 19 year old lad that has just finished full time education. He's a really shy, quite socially awkward lad (doesn't have many friends, a bit nerdy, hasn't had much 'life experience' - suffered from anxiety and other bits earlier on in life)

He's a fully qualified personal trainer - but lacking in confidence around this (mainly due to a large chunk of his learning being virtual rather than practical) and we've been trying to find a job for him that will help boost his confidence and get one foot onto the employment ladder

Eventually he'd like to become a full time trainer, but we think it's probably useful to get him started in employment for the routine, personal responsibility, time management elements etc

Does anybody have any suggestions for good first time job roles? Or know of any positions currently available?

Cheers
As long as he can find somewhere with decent co-workers and a good working environment is the key. Confidence can build quickly from that.

If he is in to his fitness get him to volunteer at his local park run, there are hundreds of people he will interact with. He can also at the same time tout his own personal training, it’s an ideal setting to do that, at the end of the day people who generally go to park run want to get fitter or better at running/training and the demographics is wide ranging so he will have interactions with a wide variety of people.

I had a bit of social anxiety myself when I was a teenager, ironically after being a social butterfly up until age 12. Something went haywire around puberty I suppose. Only thing for it in my opinion is fighting your way through it. Socializing is key.

I was lucky and had a computer club to go to (this was the late 80s), filled with people more or less with the same interests as me. That would be helpful, if such a thing exists in your area. Or maybe a meetup type thing for specific interests?

Workwise I can say I hit another lucky break as my brother in law got me a job at the local shipyard. Worked on a team primarily buillding cable trays, pulling cables and that kind of thing on an oil rig. People were direct, but also very accepting. Only thing that mattered was that you showed up on time, did your job and didn't act like a butthole. So I can recommend construction, worked wonders for me anyway.

He could have a punt at this :

Definitely retail/ hospitality. I got a Saturday job in Littlewoods food hall at age 16, Changed my life. Seriously. I went to an all girls Catholic school, had quite a sheltered up bringing, had never interacted with adults as peers and suddenly there I was chatting with ladies on the cheese counter about their husbands/kids/divorces/affairs/operations and sex lives. Didn't know what they were on about half the time. Interacting with the customers developed all minds of skills I didn't know I had - mostly tolerance when the 1lb of Cheddar they asked for came in at 1lb 1oz (But I asked for a 1lb.....)

But if he's a personal trainer why doesn't he find a gym and advertise his services - he might pick up a few clients. Working 1:1 with somebody could boost his confidence on a gentler level than having to deal with loads of people.

The next major world conflict will be India v China. Whether it turns into WW3 depends upon who else gets involved. It will still be planes, ships, tanks and foot soldiers.

It will be China V India, Japan, United States, Australia, etc etc etc….. China will have a go at someone, then end up back in the rice field economy…..

Can't think of anyone who would throw their lot in with China. Perhaps North Korea. It could kick-off over the Taiwan situation.

Think these would be perfect for him. The description you've given fits like a glove. Fate if you will...

You can thank me later. X

Can he swim and doesn`t mind frog sponk ?

I believe @Joey66 has a vacancy for a Goldfish life guard.

He won`t make many friends, but if he films himself, grappling with the fish bumming frogs and a naked Joey, then posts it on any of the fetish sites, he`ll become an online superstar.
