A pretty big bugbear of mine. It is insidious, intrusive and lives on lies and falsehoods.

But it works.

I've read countless books on it and all I can fathom out is it preys on the insecurities and desires of everyone's ego. It is based on psychology and goes deep into the human psyche.

They are everywhere, inescapable. Try and figure how many forms of advertising are around you, from car badges to billboards, logos on a phone.

Anyone ever bought something because of an advert, or, like me, been put off buying something because of the advertising?

guess what I do MJ, I turn the telly down when the adverts come on

What annoys me most about advertising is the enlistment of once respected celebrities trying to hawk junk to idiots

Bill Hicks said it best:

"Here’s the deal, folks. You do a commercial - you’re off the artistic roll call, forever. End of story. Okay? You’re another whore at the capitalist gang bang and if you do a commercial, there’s a price on your head. Everything you say is suspect and every word that comes out of your mouth is now like a turd falling into my drink."

Not all advertising is lies, but most preys upon emotions. The divide is whether advertising spreads information, which allows the consumer to make better decisions, or creates/increase desire, which allows the consumer to make more decisions.

In the end, NEA about most advertising. It's not like propaganda is a new use of communication.

The sheer number of betting adverts doesn't sit well with me to be honest. Not sure if it was totally legit, but apparently If you had put £1 on every bet Ray has had his face next to on the bet365 adverts you would have lost over £1 million.
Well he hasn't been on over a million adverts so that obviously can't be true.

Also, regardless of the actual number, they are clearly going to be unlikely bets otherwise they wouldn't advertise them.

I do agree with your initial point though, there are too many betting adverts and I think they should be better regulated.

I agree a million sounds a bit much, but I'm sure it's a lot when you consider his face is on before, in the middle of and after pretty much every game on sky.

That absolute slag off the secret escapes advert has made me resolve never to book with them. Fact is though I know who she is and what that company do.

I hate TV and radio adverts. It's part of the reason why I watch a lot of stuff on BBC.

As @Titus Bramble said, I don't like the amount of betting adverts these days, they're amongst payday loans as the worst adverts.

WHILE HIVE IS BUSY CONTROLLING YOUR HEATING AT HOOOMMMEEEE!!!
