Let's try that again...

Thanks to everyone who kindly provided feedback on our trial over the weekend here.

Ads are a necessary evil unfortunately to keep us running. If our ability to serve ads was pulled, we'd be closing.

The challenge for us then is to manage them in a way that doesn't take the piss and become counter productive.

Most of the internet can take the piss with ads so most have adblock. That's why software/devices now come preloaded with adblock. Some WiFi/Mesh networks even do now. I have adblock, and I have it on most websites. Forums can't (or shouldn't) take the piss - average visit time is 11minutes, visitors are highly engaged and so any taking the piss ads sees adblock usage rocket and that's fair game.

What I've done, using a lot of feedback from members which I hope everyone sees as fair is;
  • Guests (Not Logged In)
On Desktop and Mobile
All Pages - Bottom 'Stuck' Ad
Within Thread - Single Ad Displayed Within Each Thread.
Forum Thread Listing - Sidebar Ad
  • Members Registered And Logged In

Top Banner Ad

On Mobile;

Forum Supporter - £20 Every Six Months £20.00 per 6 months (£3.33 per month)
Forum Supporter - £3.50 Monthly Subscription
Forum Supporter - Player Thread Sponsor £2 Monthly Subscription

The same unspectacular perks as 'Forum Supporters' above, but these members now have the option to select a Day or Night Style with Zero/No Ads, anywhere;

Guilt free, even feel good free ad free GOT browsing. £10 a month though? Rip off gets. That's even more than Netflix.

As I'm sure many will have noted over the years - my attention to detail is woeful so please do reply if any of the above intention, isn't happening in reality.

Thanks everyone.

@GrandOldTeam can you please implement an alternative to PayPal to throw monies at your head.

Apparently creating mulitple PayPal accounts after your first gets suspended whilst drunkenly trying to buy a PS5 means you're in breach of some Terms & Conditions or something I've just been told.

I don't think you need an account mate, you can just do a guest subscription with a card ;)

When it prompts you to login to paypal you can click pay by debit card

Just tried mate, appears to still run through their security checks as I just get a warning on both my Debit and Credit card ☹☹️ :

  • We're sorry, but the card you have in your PayPal wallet can't be used for this payment. Please add another debit or credit card to complete your purchase.

Don't eBay whilst drunk kids. Sorry, I tried...

Ah, every day is a school day. Thanks mate.

"reviving" this thread, but currently with the ads my definitely not work computer grinds to a halt if I have them enabled, so I've disabled them.

Dunno if it's a problem for anyone else, but pages start normally then when the ads load it's shocking
