Abbreviations

Modern day scourge of the English Language as far as I'm concerned.
In real life we aren't restricted to 140 characters so no need for all this abbreviation.
Also bad is not using the whole name of somewhere such as the camp I'm at called Bella Italia, keep hearing folk call it Bella and its reaching my colon.

I agree lid. All the text talk and smilies do my head in, but more and more people use them so it's probably me being grumpy.

haha! i often have to google them to see what they're meant to mean.

for years i thought "lol" was an actual word, meant to sound like a droll laugh...only recently found out it stands for lots of love. still read it in my head as a word "lol", tho'.

Shobgite water fountain types that stared out abbreviating their job title.

QS etc etc they even do it at the kids school where 'gifted & talented' is now 'G n T'

I like GTF. Most are a bit annoying, but worse than abbreviations are when two words are merged together to make one.... Jedward, Brangelina, Keverton etc etc.

LOL is historical and will never go away. It's as dumb as anything else but very ingrained in the formation of t'internet. I can tolerate the acronyms more than the using of "u" for "you and stuff like that.
