He didn't say it was "heart-rending" (only the headline makes that "claim") and the couple have a couple of quotes surrounded by some crap words. I'm not saying I should have sympathy with his present lifestyle but it's a lousy two-bit article - written by some nobody - full of innuendo as opposed to an in-depth article about a footballer who has blown all his money.

Go to the original Dutch article which has some nice pictures.. Joe.co.uk, some nothing website that has had a few clicks because it's re-written this as a heart-rending account (embellished with some more Heitinga pictures on his holidays which didn't appear in the original article), are talking BS.

How I see it most quotes are a literal translation, barring some very minor differences that don't change the meaning substantially.

This being one:

On holidays we do still rent a fancy villa, but you get different categories of 'fancy'."

A translation of the original quote would have been: On holidays we do still rent a fancy villa, but you get different categories of 'fancy'. This takes some getting used to, but it's also a bit of an eye-opener'


On the whole I'd say it was a truthful translation; they did not change the sentiments expressed in the interview. Off course in the beginning you have things like heartbreaking and such which tries to set the sentiment but they are not claiming that he said that. If you're going to give an interview like that chances are you'll end up looking a bit of an idiot. Also the Dutch article is also quite sensational, see headline and such.
