In today's Times report on our match v Norwich by Rory Smith, there is an awful lot to make the future seem very rosy indeed and this section is well worth posting here:
"Tom Davies [Unsworth purred] was probably Man of the Match. He was everything we want in an Everton central midfield player.
I think it is a goldmine. ......with good players, it does not matter how old you are. If you watch how those players did here [Dowell, Pennington, Kenny & Davies], you know they are here to stay, and basically you build a team around that."
That - as Unsworth no doubt knows - is rather easier said that done. There will be a pressure to spend, and spend big, thanks to the largesse of Farhad Moshiri. That is never easy to balance with the need to indulge youth.
It is a dilemma, but the sort many clubs would envy. After all that snarling (from the tail end of RM tenure), Everton at last have something to smile about.
