Say NO to Ginger Managers
Gone are the days of the old back four, the 4-4-2, where the fullbacks sat back and absorbed pressure, before winning the ball and setting the wingers off to chase the ball. With the progression of football, we have had this change over the last few years where managers have played one man up front, with wingers playing as inside forwards and a flooded midfield of three. The increasing use of the 4-5-1, 4-3-3, 3-5-2, and shift away from 4-4-2 has seen the managers who are able to fluidly adapt their formation to best fit their opponents weaknesses or their teams strengths be successful.

This change has seen fullbacks take on the role of wingbacks, expected to provide support for the wingers as well as still performing their defensive duties. Out with the likes of Hibbo, defensively solid but not much give technically or attacking, and in with Coleman, Oveido Baby and Baines, replete with technique, boss tekkers, and the pace and sense of positioning to get back as well as forward. Think Cafu, but in Royal Blue. Boss.

But with these players pushing forward, and with us being a team that treats the ball like a security blanket, what happens when we lose the ball? Won't it be just the two center backs left stranded like Magaye and Andy Reid at a fitness session? This is where M. Chaussures Brun steps in. While we may start off with a back four, when we push forward and our wingbacks push up, one of our snide defensive midfielders slots in between the back two, providing cover, and meaning we fluidly move into a 3-4-3.

So with tactical fluidity built on defensive solidity the name of the football game, we, the School of Science anew are striding with "Arrogance" down a path lit with success and attacking freedom writ all on it.
With the faith in our solid foundations at the back, and James "the little engine that could" Macca snapping or sliding anything that moves, Barkley, Super Kev and Del can express themselves. The platform is laid for them to bring out the boss tekkers to beat a man, knowing that should they lose it the 4 Horsemen of Moyes, Round, Woods and Lumsden won't be charging at them bringing forth the end of days. Instead they have a smooth Spaniard, gesturing at them in a dapper jacket and long pants, encouraging them to do it again.

We sit 5th, a point behind fourth with a game in hand and six to come. Champions League, its no laughing matter. 6 on the trot now, and that winning run needs to keep on coming. But no matter what the end result, this year has been full of promise and hope, a renewal of the School of Science, and one of Everton Football Club. We have a progressive manager, a dressing room dripping positivity, and best of all, players stride with the ball at their feet without fear, playing the Everton way. Sin Meido.

A good read and even better GIF.

It's such a good time to be Toffee right now, the potential this manager and squad have is very exciting.

The next 2/3 seasons could influence the direction the club takes for the next decade or two. Who knows, it may even bring in some investment.

Great OP.

Roberto's footballing philosophy is built around ball retention. If you have the ball, everything is still possible at that moment; conversely if you don't you can't score no matter what.

To do that effectively requires that every single player becomes well rounded footballers - not attackers, midfielders, defenders. Picking the right pass, moving, understand position, how to create and exploit space while denying it to the opposition - these are higher order functions above being able to trap a ball or cleanly strike a ball or beat your defender. That, my friends, is the school of science.

Superb that lid

Honestly, who does keepy ups for 40 yards while running away from his man?
Boss innit I actually was like did I really see that, rewound just to check. At a sprint as well, I would have shot if I was him like, imagine if he had done a Rooney from that. Goal of the century right there haha

Ha aye, just volleyed it from 60 yard, Szcesny nowhere, limbs everywhere.

If he had, I reckon the Gwladys Street would have fallen over.

Great piece, thanks. Captured the culture being nurtured by the boss . It is not always going to come off ,might get togged once in a while but once we have a squad in depth (through useful uses of the transfer window ) tattooed with the school of science on their arses , anything is possible ...............

Only twice this season have we lost games where I felt we deserved to lose: Liverpool and Man City away.

Against Man City, I don't think there was anything wrong with the way we set up tactically, we simply got beaten by the better side.

Against Liverpool, it would be fair to say that we were considerably weakened by injuries and players on the pitch who were half-fit. That said, that shouldn't excuse Martinez's tactics in that game - the "arrogance" Martinez has encouraged in our play was exposed by Liverpool. They allowed us to attack them and brutally exposed us on the counter attack.

Literally one game in nearly 40 games this season that I would say Martinez's tactics could be brought into question.

That's not bad going at all.

...little concerned with Barcelona's exit from the Champions League yesterday. They're sure to be looking for a new boss. Alan Brazil mentioned what I was thinking about Martinez being a possible but this was quickly discounted by a so called 'expert' who reckons RM isn't in the frame because they will want somebody with previous links to the club.

be surprised if they went for him now, maybe in a couple of years depending on how he does with us. I would imagine De Boer maybe next in line for Barca, or Simeone maybe.
