Awesome, lid.
Because I know we all love playing games "what if" games, it's entirely possible for Everton to top the Premier League with 19 played by the end of the season, with decently believable results. Here we go:
The Grand Old Team: Two wins vs Sunderland and Southampton. Both at home. This should be the expectation at this point. It's Fortress Goodison and we're boss, c'mon.
RS: 3 points or less from Man City (A) and Chelsea (A). Two very rough away matches for any footie team on the planet, really.
Arsenal: 3 points or less from West Ham (A) and Newcastle (A). Not as easy to see as LFC's 3 points or less, but as an added bonus they're only 3 ahead on goal differential, so doable (but unlikely) on 4 points.
Man City: 4 points or less from Liverpool (H) and Crystal Palace (H). The good news on this one is that we're close enough to them that a waltz to victory over Crystal Palace doesn't stop us from jumping over them.
Chelsea: 4 points or less from Swansea (H) and Liverpool (H) OR 6 points and we outscore them on goal differential by 2. If the latter happens though, it definitely needs to be on the back of a Lukaku hat trick, just to rub it in.
So let's stick some results on there and see what that table would look like...
Have the RS tie both. Have Arsenal beat West Ham and lose to Newcastle. Man City beats CP in their other match. Chelsea beats Swansea in their other match...
Everton - 40
Arsenal - 39
Manchester City - 39
Liverpool - 38
Chelsea - 38
Ta da! Halfway through and Everton are top.
But then there's another 19 yet to be played, so it's completely meaningless anyway.
