I note that the annual Children in Need eve nt raised £50 million last night. It is being hailed as a big success given it beat last year's total of £46 million. Shamefully my reaction was "is that it?". To put it in Context that's a Gylfi Siggurdson, a Torres to Chelsea, a significant portion of Carroll to Liverpool, or Sissoko to Spurs with enough change to fund Imbula to Stoke.
So my idea is this. Most football fans have experienced the pain of a big money transfer turning out to be neither use nor ornament. To ensure there is actually some benefit or positives from the sums spent on transfers clubs should mandatorily donate 10% of the fee to charity.
There, doesn't that feel nice?
In certain cases a premium of 20% could be donated - to mitigate the probability of tittish behaviour (Morgan I'm looking at you).
Thoughts?
