Could not help but post this because there are so many comparable issues. The underdog, the massive superstars, the country that started the sport and "owns it"..... the upstarts from over the pond who are mostly too young, Germany etc......

I do not want to get on the wrong side of you since Everton choose me, but, I am a Yank and will cheer for my home team. This little blog should give you pause. Maybe we will have one of those days, but in truth I think not, BUT one never knows. However, if we are knocked out, then I will support England. All of Vancouver, Including Russians, Riveted by US-Canada -- Olympics -- 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver FanHouse

World Football or Ale House mate.

Personally i hope the USA batter England and Landon destroys St. Steven of Huyton.

They had a poll on ESPN's website today which basically asked who would be more upset?

Canadians at losing to the USA in hockey or...

England losing to the USA in football.

The England choice was winning 56 to 44% when I last looked.

I cheer any team who has an Everton player in, so i will be cheering on England if Baines and or Jags make the team. By then donovan wont be an everton player, so i would want England to win.

I watched the Hockey. Its always funny to see a county who pretty much say they invented a game, get beaten by a rival.

To be honest, most of us love Everton far more than the national team. We'll cheer for England, sure, but deep down my feeling is that it is something now of a closed shop where playing for a Sky-4 team is almost essential if you want to become an England regular.

I personally think the USA will win the World Cup before England win it again, and that England will probably never win it again in my lifetime (the next 50 years).

I think very soon that the Americans will have a strong football league as the game starts to take hold.

They are traditionally good sportsmen, so it's only a matter of time before they become a top seed with such a huge population.

England need to watch out here.

Have you ever watched the MLS? You are downplaying your chances. Have you ever seen BB coach? Moyes is a genius. BB is college level. There will be a lot of people that disagree with me, but I could care less. If you had BB as a head coach, What would you all say????

The MLS is awful. I've watched it quite a bit this year, and it compares with the Scottish league.
I just dont see football catching on over there. There are far too many sports who dominate the headlines ahead of it. Plus Americans dont like draws, and like fast paced sports. The MLS is far from fast paced.

Agree mate, if Baines or Jags make the England team, i will be made up and hope they do well. But if there is a 50/50 ball and on one side is Donovan and the other it's Gerrard, Terry, Johnson, i want Donovan to go right through them.

Don't wanna turn this into an anti-England thing because it has been done to death, but i like how Sport in the USA is dealt and how there athletes are developed and how good their facilities are. I respect that and coupled with my non-affiliation with England, i hope they beat them

The problem for England is that 2/3rds of the PL is made up of overseas players, and that has been growing and growing ever since the PL was formed. I can see a time not too far off when, say 80%+ of PL players are
from overseas. What does that do for the national coach? Instead of a pool of 200 or 300 players to assemble a squad, he realistically only has about 100 players to select a squad of 22 from. It's not the way forward. For as long as English football is enamoured with expensive foreign imports then the national team will always have this problem.

How good their facilities are, I agree, how well that their potentail players are identified, I disagree. They lack the infrastruction to even do that. (I am talking about even able to identify young players that have true talent).

The US faces a mountain of great players in England, and I am not being a brownie, just stating the truth. But, the US can, if firing on all pistons, With Davies and Gooch and Dempsey, Howard, and Foremost Donovan, back in the game, then yes, they could beat England. (This is a real wish for Davies whose car accident made it seem impossible until lately that he would ever see the pitch again). It is unlikely given the roster of England/the coach. + one to England's coach. All the English players are stars in their own right, and maybe only Howard, Donovan and Dempsey for US. But, it could happen, if England takes the US as a non factor.

Mate i did coaching in Arkansas, Nebraska and Missouri in the summer last year. I'm telling you the next-generation are 'soccer' mad. The amount of kids who i spoke to who said they are bored with baseball, baskteball etc was unbelievable.

Not only that, with the obesity problem you have over there, parents consider 'soccer' to be a great way for their kids to get fit, as their is a lot of movement and running compared to say baseball.

The infrastructure is not quite there yet i know, but i'm telling you, after what i was witnessing, kids are really getting into the sport over there. You have facilities there that are 100x better than anything we have and you have a massive population. I seriously believe it is only a matter of time before you lift that World Cup.

You have won and been the best at every other major sport in the world, bar cricket and rugby, your always top with China in the Olympics, your boss at Golf, Tennis, Athletics and your own sports.

It won't be long till your up there with the best at Football

We are the best at Football! Ha Since Football is only played really in the US. It's soccer here.

I own a Florida youth soccer website, and I will tell you that the game over here is growing in leaps over baseball, not Football or Basketball though. Soccer is being seen, all over the big networks now, especially Everton. Not only when they play against a good team, but any team.

I go to tons of youth soccer sites that promote soccer and the Everton buzz is growing. LD has been an athlete that kids look up to. There have been no scandals, and such. He speaks well and the kids over here listen. They love that he is in the EPL and they could care less if he ever comes back to the states. The Epl is something to strive for and the fact that he is doing well, and his team would want him to continue on, means so much here.
