How long has it been since Everton has had two or more attacking midfielder flair-type players in the side? Maybe 2009 when both Pienaar and Arteta were in their pomp?

We've had a few semi decent players in the 15 years since then—a Manuel Fernandes here or a Kevin Mirallas or Gerard Deulofeo there—but Grealish and Ndiaye look even a significant step up from Pienaar and Arteta in Moyes' early days. These are elite players that would not look out of place in any side in the division.

Some of the ball retention, close control and intelligent, delicate passing today (that deft chipped assist by Jack) was a joy to behold—and crucially effective too.

I'd go as far as to say the two of them are seriously making me consider whether Kanchelskis is the best Everton winger I've ever witnessed.

After years of being told Everton does not deserve to be any higher than scraping against relegation and the midfield should be bypassed at every opportunity, this 2025/26 Everton attacking midfield unit is showing signs that it's a twosome to be feared. Add the dynamic Dewsbury-Hall to the mix and we might have a perfect blend.

Get Dibling learning from those two wide-playing maestros and we may really be in business.

This is early days, but the signs are extremely positive and the goals are being spread around.

That is all, thank you.

There are a lot of fond memories of some great goals from that season. I think this year we'll make similar memories.

Just imagine if we had someone with Lukaku's ability leading the line.
I remember the prevailing theory that year was we were so good because we had a Davey Moyes defence and a sexy attack.

WELL LOOKY WHAT WE HAVE NOW

Lukaku scores goals, he never lead the line because in every other way he was useless.

Yep, we didn’t half score a load of freakishly good individual goals that was never going to work long term.

Mirallas last min winner Vs Villa
Coleman solo goal Vs Southampton
The two goals away at Swansea
Barkley away at Norwich on the opening day

Plus many others. But, as said, never going to work long term. Moyes had us playing better football prior to that and scoring more sustainable goals as the league finishes showed at the time.

5th was great with 70+ points, but not worth a carrot when you don’t come close to 50 for the next 2 years.
