Spot on, Mr Eggs....I'm not so sure top teams strictly adhere to such systems, it's more about what you do when you have the ball and what do you do when you don't.
Play with the out and out CF but players need to join in and go beyond him when you get the ball. No isolation. Fluidity. It means really hard work but provides goal threat from various areas.
When the opposition has the ball, it's about getting a defensive shape quickly and not leaving your back line exposed. Not rocket science but not confining to rigid systems.
