Not one other thing can bring you so much misery. Nothing else makes you suffer the way they do. The heartache, the anguish, the rage, the humiliation, the despair. Yet, week after week, month after month, year after year, we come back. In our thousands. Hope once again fresh in our hearts and minds. Then we get tw@tted by QPR and it starts again. But i love them. I really really love them. They are my everton. My only everton. They make me happy when skies are grey.

Like a couple others here im 16 and ive never seen us win anything. Im one of them dysfunctional fans who sits on NewsNow waiting for a bit of new news. They piss me off most weekends, Wreck most weekends but they win its the best feeling in the world, Cliche i see but i mean it. Theres nothing better than Everton. Literally Nothing. I Cant wait till we win something and im there, Best thing in the world.

My 11 year old and I were waiting on the Platform at Wembley Park to start out short sombre Journey home. A quite animated teenager with his dad tapped my lad on the shoulder pointed at me and said "its his fault you feel like this", then pointed at his own dad and said" thats my dad and its his fault that I feel the same - you should have been a red mate - get out while you can"

My lad said nothing

I just smiled at the teenagers dad and didnt really have anything to say.

A few second later another tennager tapped him on the shoulder and said "I'd rather walk alone mate"

and then as we step onto the train a quite old fella put his hand on my lads shoulder and said -"you stick with your dad son - it would be like selling your sole to the devil."

We only have about 6 stops and then got off for my missus to pick us up - whilst we were waiting for her my lad looked up at me still with teary eyes and said

"Dad I dont want to be one of them - I'm an Evertonian"

Well - dont know how I didnt cry like a girl there and then - really proud moment.

The bottom line is as we all well know - we are chosen!! We did not choose.

It doesn't matter if it was your Dad that chose you, your mate, a twist of fate or circumstance - you just are!!

COYB!!!!!

Great story.

still remember that myself in school mate am only 18, most off the kids dont have a clue about footy an just support the ********s cos they were winning things then an doing better than us, having a dad thats a big blue an family , can learn alot that age, getting took games an that an relisin what its all about, it's all stored dad our day will come and we can Sing the blues when it does' is right kid. growing up is the beginin stick with everton an ittl stick with you, even if it does make ye mad sometimes. Proud to be blue.

Every fan probably thinks this about their club but I honestly reckon there's something that sets us apart as Evertonians.

Our atmosphere's generally not so great and there's a few other teams with a larger fanbase but there's just something different. I don't know what it is.

Always thought this.

This sounds familiarly like my story, I myself am also only 16 and get a lot of **** everyday for being the only Blue in my city. -_____-

My kids are in a similar boat - my eldest daughter is 11, she gets loads off the stoke fans. She tells them - and means it - 'you have no idea what it is to be blue'. Rory Delap? I'd sooner have Neville in midfield... is a favourite phrase of hers.

My younger daughter just turned 7, and went to her 1st game last season. I wasn't sure she was that fussed about football until then, I thought she was just doing it to be like her sister - until she heard Z-cars and the crowd's reaction. She looked at my eldest, then me, and said 'is it always this brilliant?'.

My elder son is 5. He spent the week leading up to the semi final saying over and over 'we're going to smash liverpool aren't we dad'. His utter disgust at their second coming off the back of the donkey's head would have been brilliant at any other time. Even though he was clearly gutted*, the first thing he said was 'we're still the best anyway'. The recovery powers of youth FFS.

*Most of the remainder of his afternoon was spent blowing up 'them horrible reds' with an assortment of superheroes.

My youngest recognises the Everton badge wherever he sees it, but is too young to know about it all properly yet. He'll be getting educated.

Soon.

Great stories. I've never been prouder to be an Evertonian. Someday. Someday.

An American perspective:

Worth the wait. How shallow and sad it is to be a Kopite.
