We get them a lot too. Hate them. Glad to hear you're all okay!
Didn't Wellington get leveled a few years back?

Christchurch, twice within a year. 200 died. Yeah it was pretty crazy, I'm quite far away from there but everytime there's a tremor now it makes you all the more nervous.
Right Christchurch...scary stuff. Beyond the fact that there is no warning, I think the scariest part for me is that feeling of having no control. Been through a few big ones...even a 4.0 is enough to get my heart racing.
Although a lot of the houses are designed, or retrofitted, to withstand the shocks, the furnishings inside or the landscaping outside can also cause injuries. Our neighbour has a huge, elderly eucalyptus that if it fell the wrong way would not only land on our house but catch on the powerlines as it did so.Must be. I think new skyscrapers, (by our standards!) and that have some tolerance built into them, but in my village, for example, my house is about 80 years old, and the church, pub, and several other houses are 400 years old ffs!
Oh how lovely.
Hope your house catches on fire.
