5th place and league cup winners or 4th and champions league group stage?

If we qualified for the CL main it would be huge money to the club. That would mean perhaps £10-15M more in transfer money & say £5-10M in extra wages - I'm sure the club would build the extra pay on condition of CL qualification thereby not shooting themselves in the foot. I'm not sure of the numbers but they are published somewhere re: TV income & prize money. Plus of course we'd pick up some valuable Ranking Points. Right now we're ranked at 70th (with Stoke) for next season so we'd be in Pot 4 which wouldn't make life easy in terms of progress.

I would be gutted if I never experienced a proper European Cup night at Goodison before we leave (whether sooner or later). I'd have to go for the CL.

£15mill for making the group stages of the CL.
It'd be nice not to have to make a Wayne Rooney size sale every summer to keep the banks off. This time it was Rodwell, we got lucky Baines and Fellaini werent shipped out, Lescott has gone before and obviously Wayne. Financial balance is our requirement, dare I say it, even before a shiney silver pot (as we still seem not to have a pot to p!sh in).

IS RIGHT DEL.

Seconded. Totally. Scrolling through this thread, some of the posts are straight from RAWK. Enjoy our great start, very good window TBF to the club/DM/BK, but sounding off like some of them over the way looks pure daft to me.

Seriously, if it were a straight choice between those two, as much as winning a trophy would be great, CL group stage qualification would transform our finances and probably mean we wouldn't have to sell anyone for a few years.

So definitely CL group stage qualification for me, because it would have a much more beneficial long term effect on the club.

I would take the CL group stages simply for the infusion of money it would bring. The only problem with this is with our ranking we would probably be a 4th seed, making it hard to get out of group stages. The other concern is we would need to do it on a consistent basis to really reap the financial rewards, a one off appearance while certainly fun and exciting doesnt really bring a regular financial windfall.

This^^^ I wasn't there last night but the 24,000 that did turn up (a decent turn out for a wet wednesday against Orient) where properly entertained. Imagine one of the big boys infront of 40,000!

I'm only going to get worse, right upto when we lose and I jump in the sea. Enjoy it, it's a good feeling.

I'm not fussed about the League Cup, although I got interested when we got to the semi a few years ago. To those who just want silverware, ask yourself, would you rather finish 17th and win the LC or finish 4th. I hope that we can aim higher one day, but I'll take 4th anyday until then.
