As a few others have thrown contenders into the ring, let me present to you Neutral Milk Hotel. Beloved by the clique, and rightfully so, there are very few albums that can compare to the emotion and unique sound present here. Fronted by the beautiful, unorthodox vocals of Jeff Mangum and supported by a plethora of instruments, 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea' can only truly be appreciated with repeat listening.
Based on a loose concept surrounding Anne Frank, and combined with dreams that Mangum himself had, lyrics and themes collide in all the nonsensical glory of an opposition player purposefully scoring an oggy. Whether its the disturbing/humorous 'King of Carrot Flowers, pt 1', the beautiful title track, or the sprawling epic that is 'Oh Comely', Neutral Milk Hotel create a masterpiece without a filler track in sight.
If you listen to this after reading this and hate it, good. Now listen to it 10 more times, and join the love in.
