Boss coat aficionado
Following on from Alio's excellent critique of Hot Fuss, I'm going for the debut album by Leicester's greatest export since Walkers crisps.
The first track on any album for me is a pretty big indicator of how it's going to go. A gash first song and chances are, your opinions of the whole album will be tainted before you even listen to the rest. Thankfully, this one kicks off with the delightfully edgy festival favourite Club Foot which is defintely best listened to at full volume with a nose full of beak (bluejock's lawyers would like to point out that at no point does he advocate the use of class A narcotics, no matter how f*cking awesome they are)
Processed Beats is a nice, slower paced follow up to help you avoid an OD or heart attack in the first 6 minutes of listening, and another indicator of just how good a songwriter Serge Pizzorno actually is.
LSF (Lost Souls Forever) is probably my favourite track from the album and actually appears three times in my "Indie" playlist just so's it's heard more.
You'd be hard pressed to find a better opening line to a song anywhere than Cutt Off, with the frankly magnificent "John was a scientist, he was hooked on LSD, interested in mind control, and how the monkey held the key..."
With three or four solid album tracks in ID, Running Battle, U Boat and Butcher Blues, this for me was one of the best ever debut albums by a British band.
No Kasabian feature would be complete without a link to Serge's volley. I know Soccer AM is full of bad tits and wacky zany bantz but this right here was television gold.
