Awesome, lid.
With Southampton and West Ham both out of Europa League already, Oh I do believe it's on.

Current 16/17 estimates:

England: 51.784
Italy: 50.581

Having 2 less English sides in the Europa League group stage will hurt, a lot. Even though nobody cares about Europa League, it's quite important to country coefficients.

It's 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw, divided by the number of participating clubs. The same for both CL and Europa. There are bonus points that make CL worth more, though:
  • Clubs that reach the quarter-finals, semi-finals, or final of either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League (1 bonus point).
  • Clubs that qualify for the group stage of the Champions League (4 bonus points).
  • Clubs that qualify for the round of 16 of the Champions League (5 bonus points).

So, even though Sampdoria are also already out as well, Italy's wins will be worth more, and they're operating at a higher efficiency since they have 83% of their clubs active in the group stage compared to England's 75%.

This will be fun to watch.

Utterly embarrassing from Southampton and West Ham.

Makes me extra annoyed that we didn't get in the Europa League.

this.

Its a cup competition and i'd always want us to be in it. We have came close to winning it recently bar on pens and another season might have seen us go far last year as well (if martinez is the right man).

Saints and west ham wont be near qualifying every year so it makes a mockery of the whole thing that they weren't arsed to try and get into it.

Quite fancy the trip to Carrier Bag just because it is so random. Will def do Monaco, might take in Anderlecht as well although there is every possibility it might get 'nawty'.

I'd argue Southampton are just bottling it.

West Ham are utter dire, but Saints have some very good players, based on their league form, i'd say they didn't throw it, they're just hugely underperforming, makes me happy we've played them when we have.

I'd also argue the likes of Leverkusen, Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg and Augsburg will struggle in Europe, just like Juve might in their group.

Look at United, Arsenal and Chelsea, piss easy groups.

Not a massive difference for us and I think it would be actually better for the league.

Champions League should be a league for champions indeed.

Nailed it. i would say 2nd place teams at a push because you love to see a bit of competitiveness. but that should be a max. then europa for 3rd and both cup winners. then both comps can take up tues and wed without this thursday rubbish that makes half the games be played ona sunday.

how many times have liverpool been in the "Champions League" in the 25 years since they actually won their own league. it's stupid and is what causing the prem to have this breakaway top 7.

the only way it's not nailed on is because liverpool and spurs have spent their money terribly. TV money will make the league more of a spectacle as a whole i'd believe. not really arsed on europe if it's nothing to do with us.
