10/11/17 TWAIN CRUSH DAY
Going for an upgrade on my old HDTV which is starting to show signs of being on the way out. My PS4 deserves an ace IV to go with it. Was looking at the 4K TVs in teh sales - seems they are mainly pushing crap out - anyone got a 4K TV they'd recommend or make anu suggestions?

Current consoles don't and surely won't ever support 4K, so to be honest I'm not sure it's worth it.

Paying the premium to be on the cutting edge of tech is all a bit pointless. You'd be better getting yourself a good 1080p TV with a great screen, then coming back to 4K in 5+ years when it's the norm.

As with most things I think it's a case of you get what you pay for. The OLED LG 4k is amazing, as is the Samsung curved 55" 4k. Best value I've seen is the Sony Bravia 4k 49" which you can pick up for £1000

Don't listen to RFUS. He doesn't know the difference between a DDOS and hacking.

Isn't that what he said though?

They'll look good in the store but thats different to looking good in your home.

Exactly. Their demos and up close viewings will make them look amazing, but day to day will you actually utilise it? Viewing distance and the resolution of your content will probably differ to that of a shop floor demo.

I bought one of these earlier this year, the picture and sound are amazing. 4k content may not be available yet but it upscales regular 1080p content to something between 1080p and full 4k and has a refresh rate of 2000hz which is at least double what most regular HD tv's run at so its awesome for gaming. It will also convert any 2d content to 3d. Apparently Sky will launch 4k channels in October prob subscription sport and movies first, for films I'm still using my 1080 blueray player, but you can get a 4k up scaling blueray player, I'm waiting until full 4k blueray players are available also in October apparently, 4k disks are expected to launch then as well.

He's talking out of his pipe in that piece imo.

I defy anyone to go into a large electrical retailer and view the TV's and not notice the stunning difference with the top end 4ks

You cannot discern a large difference between 4K and 1080p at the viewing distances people normally experience in the home. The 4K TVs they have in places like Currys are massive and you stand about three feet away from them, not a real world experience at all.

Gaming consoles run at 60fps max, so a refresh rate of '2000Hz' won't really do anything.

Upscaling does nothing to improve the quality of the image, you're still viewing 1080p content on a screen with a higher resolution. Viewing the same content on a 1080p panel would look just as good.

You've probably bought an ace tv and the picture is probably great, but that's not because of the 4K resolution. It's because the panel is extremely good in other ways.

Garbage.

If you look at them from any sensible distance you can clearly see the difference between something like an OLEG 4k and a standard HD

Current gen consoles won't ever hit 4K, and it'll be a looooooong time before broadcast TV is in 4K.

So, for the next decade or so, the only content that's really going to be in 4K are movies.

I'd love one for my computer (4 times the desktop space!), but in most cases, getting a 4K TV now really isn't going to be worth it.

I say buy a high end 1080p display and pocket the difference.

(This is where you say Netflix can do 4K, and this is where I say they compress the hell out of the codec so there isn't really a discernible quality difference anyway. Most interweb connections just aren't fast enough. We're talking streaming 4 1080p streams at once here.)

Ohh...well I've been properly tucked up by the salesman thenlol, what I posted is what he told me when I bought it, I went in for a regular 1080p which I cound of got for about half the price but I wanted to future proof myself, didn't want to spend a load for it to be out of date in a few years, It is a great looking TV though.
