within a week.

Walsall always had a big cup tradition

... not anymore .... maybe one day again!?

If only we could draw everton then! But we havent had 3rd round since stoke 2006

Evening folks! I am the writer of that article. Was just a lad of 13 but I remember the whole day. For me it was brilliant to visit a ground like Goodison Park. The stands looked massive and I had never been in the company of 45,000 people before! I was right proud of Walsall that day. Everyone was thinking Walsall would take a bit of a beating but we played really well. Bernie Wright was like a battering ram, hard as nails and I remember whilst playing for Everton he accidently broke the toe of Sheff United's Eddie Colquhoun, whilst attempting a diving header! He was a real hero for Walsall that season and were very sorry to see him go. He was never cut out for First Division football and we were delighted to get him back!

Cheers pal. It was only my third Walsall away game and indeed my only ever visit to Goodison Park. Would love to visit again after all this time so hoping you will draw us in a cup competition again. Alan Whittle was always going to be a dangerman and he was a fine player. You had some very good players on view and Walsall had the usual mix of young players and has beens..nothing's changed 40 years on!

Cheers The Blue Fox. Thought I'd sign up to this fine forum and see if any Everton fans from yesteryear were present that day! Not sure how many travelled up from Walsall that day but there were thousands! Some one pointed out that there were more present at Goodison that day than your next home game with Leeds in Div 1. !! Bernie Wright returned to Fellows Park and in 74-5 was one of the heroes in a great FA Cup run in which we defeated Man Utd and Newcastle. Bernie scored in the 3-2 win over United. There was no finess to his game, he just powered his way threw defences and let's just say he could look after himself.
