Hello

I just bought a 3d tv. Any thoughts? People from stores like Comet and Bestbuy have told me in a year or so all tv's available will be 3d ready, just like most now have become HD or HD ready.

I got a Samsung (my favourite TV manufacturer) 40 inch d6510, with two free battery operated glasses for £849. I got it from comet on a buy now pay in 12 months deal bar a 10% deposit.

Anyone have a 3d tv? are there many bluray rentals that come in 3D?

To my annoyance, I learned that to get the Sky 3D channel (channel 217) you first need to get all the packages with sky (movie, sports, news, docs, music, entertainment, and also HD). That was quite annoying. £62.25 a month which totally sucks but it's the only way to get the 3d channel. At least I get ESPN for 3 months free, but after that will be an extra £9 a month if I want to keep that too.

Is 3d the way forward? will we all have 3d tvs in 2/3 years? is it worth it?

and what the hell is 4d?

have i made a big mistake?

and where the **** is Jo? why's he not on?

3d is a gimmick but if packing it in becomes cheap enough it'll catch on and the quality and technique'll get better. I don't believe in trying out new tech before it's proven, since it's rather expensive and the stuff isn't good enough when it first comes out. Most of the time anyway. Some people say it gives you an head ache. Dunno, try it and report, am interested to see how it does.

No it's that one. It's white not black like most TV's. It has Wi-fi built in so can connect to my internet without any extra wires. Though I don't really take it online for web browsing. Other stuff the wi-fi may come in handy though. That's why I went for Samsung. Has a 2d->3d mode which turns normal tv into kind of ishy 3d - ishiness. Not great though because it's broadcast in 2d anyway so not much difference. The 3D looks pretty cool, but the best stuff on the Sky 3D channel is pay-per-view. Football isn't all that great in 3d, from what I've seen so far, but maybe that will change as the season goes on. But movies and other programmes are. They play whatever is on the normal movie channels, that is available in 3D, for free on the Sky 3d channel (tron legacy in 3d tonight) but the newer stuff is pay per view which sucks.

4d has an extra sensory experience, like squirting water into your eyeballs when it's a sad bit or raining.

do you live in a soft water area ?

That's the funniest thing I've read all day Reidy.

Also, in Epcot Centre they have a ride called 'Soarin' which has rows of 'handgliders' in a massive cinema.

As you fly thru Orange groves you can smell fresh oranges clear as a bell. I think they blow the smell thru the ventilation at that exact moment.

There's a few rides like that, that must be 4D I suppose.

3D is pretty good, for movies like Avatar it just adds abit to the effect, but the movies that really profit from it are stuff like final destination where the explosions come out at you and that...

Ive got a choice of a 3D TV or a cheaper super-thin LED TV, or bigger screen plasma, i dont know how to decide!!

Id wait another 6 months or so and these 3d tvs will be cheaper and probably better than they are now, its a fact, it happened with the hd craze. I'm on just 'bog standard' hd at the min but my 42" Lg led tv (500 quid, a bargain imo) is proper boss. Id rather have crystal clear tv than 3d anyways tbh.

Ive never seen 3D apart from going to Granada studios about 20 years ago. My mate's sky+ still amazes me. 4D uses "aroma scope" so you can really smell the film experience. The new Spy Kids film uses it but im looking forward to babestation incorporating it. What an age we live in.

I don't think I'll be buying a 3D TV until they do away with the glasses, it annoys me to wear them in the cinema let alone at home.

I would deffo break them too.

We went in a 4d cinema in a Theme Park in Italy, a Spongebob movie in italian (didn't spot balotelli there) and the seats all moved around with smoke/steam, water spray and bubbles, it also smelled like concentrated brine.

Now picture that experience in the comfort of your own home watching inter-racial lesbian fisting. It's the future.

Theres a samsung one for like £2k which looks absolutely unbelievable, the screen goes right to the edge and its about 50 inches, looks amazing, shame i have about 500 to spend
