What is love?
and the people living in Eastern Europe were quickly removing the chains of communism.

What a fantastic event, marked by The Hoff.

Was in Berlin five months before the wall came down, stayed with a German family who had relatives in the East.
At that time, they didn't believe the wall would ever come down. Even with Gorbachev suggesting it should and might, they never thought it would.

Anybody going to Berlin should visit the museum on Freidrichstrasse, the House at Checkpoint Charlie, it's a staggering monument to those that tried to escape East Germany, those that succeeded and those that didn't.

The last time we went, we stayed very close to the KaDeWe just off Tauentzien Straße, which was very different from when we stayed near Alexanderplatz.

Both times we had a wonderful time in an absolutely brilliant city, and it was great to see the different sides to it: it's still strikingly West Vs. East in many ways.

I wish I'd gone before the wall went down, but I never got into actual Berlin.

I was there in the 80's when the wall was still up. Loved the place. Dark, edgy but always vibrant.
Had a brilliant evening in East Berlin in 84, four of us had been in all day and stayed for a night out with some locals.
We were pretty certain at least one of them was secret police or Stasi, but we had a blast with them before coming out just before the checkpoint closed.

I never got over into the East due to my security clearance. I do recall that one of our drivers got caught smuggling easties out in the boot of his car, caused a bit of a flap at the time.

I was stationed there 86-88. So many happy memories. Went back a few years ago and wow it's changed. Still found a few of my old haunts though.
Ah in the forces ?
I was there with work when I worked for Mercedes.
And you're right, it's changed since the wall came down... but still a boss visit
