2020 decade?

We've been having this argument for a few days now. In my opinion 2020 is the last year of the decade. Decades start at year 1 and end on year 10. So 2011-2020 is the decade.

Oh yeah, 2001 was the first year of the new millennium, not 2000...

My opinion is the first year of the decade, else the nineties ended in 2000 etc. and that doesn't make sense.

The 1990s began on the 1st January 1990 and ended on the 31st December 1999.
The next decade began on the 1st January 2000 and ended on the 31st December 2009.
This decade began on 1st January 2010 and ends on Tuesday 31st December 2019.
The next decade begins on the 1st January 2020, it will end when Trump nukes China

But there is and was no year 0...

In our calendar system, that is true, and technically, the current millennium didn’t start until 01/01/2001.

But seeing as everyone adopted 01/01/2000 as the start of the millennium, it’s reasonable to say that’s true. Calendars are man made anyway, not a universal, physical truth.

2020 is the start of the new decade. If you referred to an event that happened on 5th July 2020 as being part of the 2010s decade, you’d be lined up against a wall and pelted with rotten tomatoes by the towns folk.
