Somebody else got thread banned earlier making the same joke. It's firstly ignorant...other people of African descent have won the WC. Jerome Boateng won it last time ffs.

Second it's not funny.

Its a grey area for me.

Of course I dont mean racism, but the whole International farce thing, ive got quite a very blinkered view on the whole thing, theres loads of players that upset me with their National teams, thankfully for me its not based on the colour of their skin.

For example, ive no issue with Besic playing for Bosnia, but I dont think Sterling should play for England, I dont think Costa should play for Spain, McCarthy for Ireland, but as I say its a grey area.

Pogba for example, should he play for France? Well yes, if he wants, he was born in France, his Brother who plays for Guinea was born in Guinea.

But yeah, most of the "jokes" arent based on peoples thoughts on International football, sadly they are based on something a little more sinister.

I mean I get it, if Sterling considers himself English, after hes spent the majority of his life in England, then he should play for England, I dont know what his thoughts are regarding what Nationality he considers himself, anyway, its a discussion for another day I suppose.

You're taking it so wrong but I understand your point. I'll drop it. The point was never African footballers are inferior it was that they are superior in so many ways on that French squad.

I mean Pele undoubtedly is of African descent is considered the best ever by many.

Anyways I apologize, my bad.

Oh I get that. A couple of the 'Americans' that played at the last World Cup could barely speak English...or did so with a very heavy German accent.

Personally I have no problem with it. It's part of the rules. If Jerome Boateng wasn't good enough to be considered for a German call up he should have every right to choose to play for Ghana. If Cenk Tosun doesn't see it happening in Germany he was lucky enough to have Turkey to fall back on.

Anyway, as you say it's generally meant in a more sinister way when it's told as a 'joke'.

I honestly dont consider Pele of African descent, mostly cos I dont know if his family was originally from Africa, I consider him, well a fella from Brazil.

He was born in Germany, he should bloody play for Germany!!!!!!

For this reason :
He has never been to Ghana.

But then his half Brother :
Boateng received a Ghanaian passport[69] and switched his allegiance to Ghana in May 2010;[70][71] he has said that he feels more Ghanaian.

He can play for Ghana!

As I said grey area.

Every player is different, its up to them really, im sure they dont really care which country I think they should play for.

Bet he would have been to Ghana if it didn't look like it would work out for him in Deutschland...

Oh no he's definitely from Brazil, but he is of African descent. This has gone so for down the rabbit hole I wish I never made the post.

It was just a dumb joke, didn't think it would offend so much. My apologies.

I do get it: he's a big lump who runs about barging into opponents. I just dont see how anyone views that as a great contribution.

Someone's going to propose erecting a statue to Denis Stracqualursi at this rate.

They won the world cup playing that system! It doesn't matter if you, me or anyone else thinks it's a great contribution, that fact is it worked.

If Denis won us the league playing that way then yeah get casting that statue.

It was a joke. That's all. If not for prior colonial exploits do you think that team would look that way?

I take it you believe in colonialism then?

If it wasn't for past colonial exploits you wouldn't have a nation let alone a team. (I assume you are American from your username, apologies if not...but it could ring true for most nations to be fair)

Only 2 of the French squad were not born in France, Umtiti who is from Cameroon, and Mandanda who is from Congo and didn't play anyway. The rest are second/third generation French.

It's a tough one, there are loads of examples of players playing for international teams that the cynic in some us would suggest they are using their parents' or grandparents' birthright as a back road to further their ambition to play international football.

I know there's lots of NZL international footballers past and present with heavy English or Scottish accents, likewise plenty of English-born playing for Scotland, Ireland etc.

But hey, it's in the rules, so best of luck to them. All a grey are as you say, we can't judge if a player chooses to represent a country that they feel represents their own personal values/beliefs/lifestyle/family ties best.

Easy for France after the first half an hour or so and seeing Croatia had 100% more goals than England and France had 100% more than Croatia by my calculations France would have beaten England in the final by about Twelvety-nil. Guess everyone is pretty pleased they didn't have to sit through that now!
