For many football fans the FA Cup starts in earnest today with 32 matches in the Fourth Qualifying Round with all the Blue Square Premier League teams joining the competition today with all teams, even the smallest minnows, just one win away from the promise land of the First Round proper and the potential big money tie that it might bring.
A couple of notable ties in this round might be:
- Macclesfield Town vs Marine AFC
Local boys Marine need all the support they can get at Blue Square Premier side Macclesfield. Myself and many others will be looking for Marine to cause a shock though.
- South Park vs Met Police
The joint lowest rank team left in the competition South Park of the combined counties league look to cause a shock at cup stalwarts Met Police
- Hastings vs Blackfield & Langley
The other joint lowest rank team left in the competition Blackfield & Langley of the Wessex League look to upset the odds with a tricky tie away to Hastings
All today's/tomorrows fixtures can be seen here
As well as being the best cup competition in the world it also presents us with an opportunity to get some silverware in our trophy cabinet. It might not be seen as the same by some but for me the FA cup still boasts all of the magic that make it a truly brilliant competition. Who doesn't love the FA Cup?
