2005 CL Final player arrested on suspicion of match fixing

I doubt you'd take a bung to fix a European Cup final mate, lol.

Haven't you been following the news lately?

Several players have admitted deliberately getting booked/sent off in exchange for large sums. Linked to Asian betting syndicates betting on particularly incidents in the game.

Possible that a spot fixing offence can affect the result of a match.

Nothing silly or far fetched about it, and police are treating this seriously throughout Europe now.

They were all lower league players, on much less money where 70 or 80k isn't pennies to them.

Unless we're talking millions and millions then I don't think gatusso so would have concerned himself.

Juventus got relegated in 2006 after being found guilty of match fixing. It's a major problem in the Italian game.

It's not just 'lower league players'. Might be in this country, in Italy it certainly isn't.

BBC now reporting it:

I'm sure it's all bollocks to be honest

Gattuso seems like a bit of a sod, but I doubt he threw the CL Final

Would be hilarious though if Liverpool only won it through it being fixed, but I'm sure their win was on the level

I agree it is very difficult for one player (in a team of 11) to throw a game.

In that 2006 scandal, there were loads getting up to all sorts, beyond what you'd imagine.

Oh behave yourself ffs.

There's a world of difference between spot fixing in nothing games, to what you're trying to intimate here.

The result of the game may have been a consequence of his actions.

Gattuso was on 4m Euro a year & it was one of the biggest games of his life...please.

Juventus got stripped of their 2005 & 2006 Serie A league titles and were demoted.

I'd say Serie A games are high profile, so I'm not sure why you find it hard to believe something like this would be possible.
