Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
If you think that you have had to tighten the belt thus far, then get ready to get your swiss army knife out, and use that thing for getting stones from hooves to add another hole in a position that will have you doubled over.

Of course the money men and the chinless will say that it's upto all of us to drag the country out of the mess it is in, but then it's easy for those on big salaries to pay that little bit extra.
What about those that are already below what is classed as the poverty line ?
where do they find this extra that cannot be avoided from ?

Don't think the majority (myself as well) actually realise just how much extra they will have to find per week/month. Fuel, Heating, Water, Council Tax (i may be wrong on that tbh), Food, all things that in no way can be classed as luxuries.

This year has the markings of being a year of discontent as the VAT rise cripples the working man, and what about those that rely on benefits to make ends meet ? Those very benefits are based on a calculation that works out the minimum needed to live, is there a rise to keep them afloat ? NO, just loads of people that will say "work harder, get another job, get on your bike to find work", people that can afford the extra, just may mean that they aren't quite putting as much away for a rainy day.

There will be a record number of small businesses going down the pan, there will be a record number of self employed that will call it a day, now when this happens and people say, "feck this I'll run up a load of debt first" the money men will find that their plan to get the country on track was really aimed at the wrong people and we could well be in a worse position than before.

Yet the money men and execs will still reap their bonuses, bonuses that make someones wage look like they've been paid with pebbles and stones.

Crime will hit new heights as it bites.....it always does, and with the way that society has gone your traditional 'cat burglar' is more than likely going to shoot you dead or stick a kitchen knife into you if you discover them.

There will be race riots as the population turn on 'outsiders,' it's a sad fact that when everything goes tits then immigrants are the 1st to get it.

I expect the usual garb about being accountable myself for everything, well if the only way that people can get by is to cheat the system, rip off the benefits, not pay tax by not declaring income, rob, sell 'stuff', do whatever, then that is what they will do. Yet they will be derided for that, as the right way is to go out and work for minimum wage in 3 jobs to pay the mortgage, cos of course we are awash with those jobs and there are more than enough to give us all 2 or 3 occupations, in the meantime keycutters will coin it in, as we all have to get keys cut for our kids so that they can look after themselves when they get in from school, bung a micro meal in for tea, and then wander the streets 'til 1 of us gets home at some ungodly hour to put them to bed.

predictions...

Crime... through the roof.
Unemployment....through the roof
Debt/ bankruptcy........through the roof
General unhappiness... through the roof
businesses closing down.......through the roof
people below the 'poverty line'......through the roof

Britain is about to become a lot more Broken, and I fully expect there to be rioting on a scale never seen before.

Happy New Year.

When does it come in? and when do you expect the economy to drop from the resulting loss on employment and decreased spending?

What other solutions do you think could be focused upon to decrease debt and stimulate the economy?

We do have the Royal Wedding to look forward to though.

*touches forelock*

Bruce will be along any second to remind us that we're all responsible for our own actions, that it's wrong to want a society and right that the weak and the poor and the elderly and the infirm should be crushed by a jackboot into the ground.

VAT increase is 2.5% = £2.50 in every £100, oh yes this is going to make many people broke. I am only a pensioner and I don't panic like Reidy whose underpants must be quite brown now.

Two words mate.

Bilderberg Group.

*Puts on Tin Foil hat.

Why ? you on wifi ?

I had a boss once (in engineering) who used to keep bleating on about how things are done stateside, regarding work patterns/shifts/ flexibility, the thing is though he wanted us to jump through hoops like they apparently do but when parity regarding pay was brought into it he saw that as something that was not acceptable. He wanted to be able to chop and change shift patterns at the drop of a hat, with less than a weeks notice, refusing to accept that people would need longer tp reorganise their lives around it (talking 12 hour shifts here, days/nights/weekends) when it was put to him that people had partners that worked opposing shifts, and kids so it just wasn't that simple, he just blanked us like we were speaking to him in a foreign tongue, we pointed out that if he wanted us to do it all his way then our wages would have to be considerably higher to make up for the fact that our partners would no longer be able to work, again it was like we were speaking in swahili or mandarin.

He wasn't even American ffs, he came to us from Shorts in Belfast.

If we are expected to go down the American route though then give us their prices and wages, I'll happily go back into Engineering for almost double pay and things costing far less, ffs just their petrol prices would do for starters.

This won't "break" Britain on it's own, but on top of everything else the Tories are hacking and slashing away at, it could be one of the straws that finally break the camels back.

I can't believe a bunch of posh blokes are doing this solely to cut the size of central government. No sense of decency concerning the common person on the street at all.

Labour wouldn't have done much better though I'm afraid to say. Let's look at it this way - a few years from now, we'll have another bunch of Tories kept out of office for a decade plus due to terrible performance whilst in office.

And the Lib Dems will be on the same scale as the Green Party. Poor buggers.

Well chico won't really be affected will he, so you are happy to pay more, that puts you in a minority for your age group mate.
If people are to be responsible for their actions then lets hold the bankers responsible for the mess they created, if the country is in a mess then there should be NO bonuses and pay hikes in the financial sector.

When I fill my vehicle, I pay the price of fuel, I pay fuel tax, and then I pay vat on both which is now going up, how the feck do I have to pay vat on fuel tax ? the fuel tax is neither a service or goods that I receive so how is that right ?
I pay road tax, i pay tax on my insurance, yet the roads are full of potholes and they grind to a halt at the first sign of frost, so that tax is all going to good use then.

btw, i use LPG which thanks to this vat rise will be over double the price it was 4 years ago, 36p a litre when i got it and will now be over 72p.

Don't panic

If we're supposed to 'bash' the bankers, why not 'bash' home owners as well? Remember that many people took on loans they could not afford and it was them defaulting that caused the 'sub-prime' situation. So by the rationale in this thread we should return interest rates to a more sensible rate so that the sensible people that actually save money aren't getting punished by non-existant interest rates. Of course that won't happen.

As the days go by its becoming clearer how inept and unsuitable these clowns are for government the sooner its over and they go to the country the better.
