i think one major thing may be the continuing decline of standards of officiating, especially with howard webb retiring.
i still maintain that a ref with the surname singh (can't remember the first name) was the best ref i've seen when i saw him ref games in the 3rd/4th divisions.

His first name was Gerrupta...... Unfortunately for us he retired from the game and followed a different career path.... He ended up being the Indian karaoke champion.
