The FA Cup Final : Crystal Palace v The Bore Merchants

They didn’t actually say it was sound. Just said it wasn’t DOGSO which was the only reviewable part. Handling outside the box apparently isn’t. Palace got massively saved by a weird wrinkle in the VAR rules.

    Possible Goodison redevelopment.

That's a good point. Quick look seems to indicate even the tiniest flats within the actual footprint of the old stadium are currently selling for ~£500k on the low end.

    Possible Goodison redevelopment.

This is really best case scenario IMO. There is at least one full stand remaining that from the road looks almost exactly as it did when Arsenal still played there. Also has a park/plaza where the pitch used to be. It wouldn't be quite as impressive at Goodison, because to be honest the outside...

Final game at Goodison - confirmed Sunday 18 May, 12PM

This is how I remembered it. However, after looking it up, it just happened to work out that way. Their final game at Upton Park ended up being the lone game on the Tuesday night before the final weekend to fit in a match that had to be rescheduled because Man U played in the FA Cup semifinal in...

Final game at Goodison - confirmed Sunday 18 May, 12PM

Arsenal, Brentford, Chelsea, Palace and West Ham are all scheduled at home that week. If none of them have their match rearranged due to playing in the Cup final, it's pretty easy to see some of those games are getting moved to either Friday or Monday for policing purposes.

    2024/25 Jordan Pickford

Aren't he and his family pretty happy and settled in the area? If you've got young kids like he does, that's a pretty good reason not to pick everything up and leave. Also, I imagine he just enjoys being in on the action the way he's always been at Everton. Sure, he'd win more if he went...

    2024/25 Jordan Pickford

In retrospect, his penalty save against Leicester basically single handedly kept us up in 2023. The year before he had a couple great games in the run-in (most notably the one against Chelsea where he made back to back saves at the Park End) that ensured we didn’t go to Arsenal needing a result...

    VAR

But really the opposite can be said too. At least a few times a year you'll see a player's instincts kick in and they attempt to carry on after what was probably a foul in the box. It's NEVER given as a penalty, ever. The only thing that staying on your feet does is guarantee you aren't getting...

    VAR

There needs to be some sort of time limit introduced for the review process. 30 seconds, or maybe 60 at the most. Needing five full minutes to either confirm or overturn a call on the field inherently means that there wasn't a clear and obvious error. Also, sending the on-field official over...

Match Thread Brentford 1-1 Everton. Wednesday Feb 26th. 7.30pm

Much needed break coming up after this game. Just two games in 35 days before the Anfield derby in early April.

The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Generally this is true, but I think Dyche showed last season that it is possible to be tight enough at the back to overcome it. We scored the second fewest goals in the league, and if not for the points deductions would have only missed finishing top-half by one point. That said, the scoring...

The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

There’s no chance it’s going to take more than 35 points to survive this season. Leicester are currently on pace to finish on 27. Just 30 could very realistically keep someone up this year.

The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

His unwillingness to adapt was never more on display than in their first meeting with Chelsea last season. Spurs went down to ten men in the first half, and then down to nine with over half an hour to play. He changed nothing. Still played the high line at nearly midfield, which two men short...

The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

It’s been 15 years since a team needed 40 points to stay up. Only once in that time has a team needed more than 37. The league has become absurdly top heavy. At this stage it’s looking like a decent bet that 35 will keep someone up this season. But yes, 40 would absolutely guarantee safety.

    TV Series

A nine part miniseries adaptation of the book Say Nothing released yesterday. It’s on Hulu in the US, and Disney+ everywhere else. I thought it was good and pretty faithful to the book, although huge amounts had to be left out simply due to time constraints. More than anything else I’d recommend...

    Copa América 2024

I don’t think even they are capable of lowering themselves to level of the ref in the US game last night. That would have been an appalling performance from a 13 year old reffing his first U-7 game. Watching a so called professional referee simultaneously pull play back for a foul, card a...

    Copa América 2024

The Copa has been a perfect case study of “it could always be worse” for those who moan about the refs in England.
