Quite the opposite actually. Living in Ipswich I watch a fair few of their games and you get far less time in the championship than you do in the Premier.

That was 4 years ago when he was 21 and just about only got in to the game? Meh. It's already been stated he was a very late starter in football and consequently a late bloomer. He's since been boss in two far superior leagues in Turkey and Russia.
