I would love him to use him often, and let him learn and grow with us. Just feel Moyes will farm that part of his development out, as the evidence suggests thats what he does, which is fine, most managers do it.

It was, but it also didn't happen. Starter in all but 2 games.

….i remember Moyes saying to Neil Warnock that Barkley couldn’t be trusted to work out of possession, Barkley even struggled for game time on loan which was understandable. It’s a nonsense to suggest Moyes wouldn’t want to play a very talented young player, indeed it’s a nonsense to suggest any...

I hope he does play him, but more evidence to suggest he just wont. Rodwell was almost 20 years ago, and he sent Ross out on loan to Sheff Wed & Leeds, Martinez got Ross into the team.

If/when he does I'll be as happy as anyone.

I think he's pretty similar to Sean Longstaff, which is funny seeing as 90% of us seem to think he's crap

What if he just turns into a solid Premier League squad player for us rather than turn into Rooney or Barkley? Is that an issue?

You’re setting up a lot of straw men here. My view on young players is that some are obviously special at a young age (Rooney, Barkley, Rodwell) and clearly have the potential to be England level players with the right application. They are the young players I get excited about. He isn’t in that...

I’m convinced Barkley would have turned out to be a much better player if he’d stayed developing with Moyes rather than Martinez. Yes Martinez unleashed him in 13/14 season and we all saw the natural talent he had but then he regressed into a player that couldn’t nail down a position and seemed...

Yeah, and it's also easy to forget that Tony Hibbert and Leon Osman were once products of the academy with little experience when Moyes took over. Then there's Anichebe and Vaughan (who was handed PL footy at age 16). Looking at what he got wrong, you're right, there wasn't a lot of players he...

Moyes played Rodwell a lot when he was young, he played Barkley too. If kids are good enough he’ll give them game time, it’s just never as early or as often as his critics want but he’s not often wrong.

Well you said “I want to see him be braver in possession, ask for it under pressure ” . I said I’d seen it and gave examples, in I believe a balanced manner. If you disagree cos you’ve seen different that’s fine, it’s a Forum with different views, you seem to be on a personal mission to try to...

Nobody is making out that he’s a Rooney level talent, not one single soul.

    2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

Sure, he looks ok. I just think people are going overboard on him because he's young like he's a Rooney/Barkley level talent. He hasn't shown enough yet for me to get hyped up about him. Could easily be another Tom Davies. Seen too many youngsters talked up over the years on here that have...

Derby fans would probably disagree with you that he can’t progress the ball up the pitch.

...the centre backs and the keeper always results in us losing possession because we don't build from the back. Unless you are going to try to dominate possession like City then breaking the lines is key in football. We haven't had anyone who does that from the centre of midfield since Barkley left.

Rodwell for me, but hopefully not as Birkdale, he will become a first team regular. The reason i wasn't bothered about us not getting Adam Wharton (he's just as good as him at 18 imo)

He He's no where near Barkley based on what I have seen so far. Barkley was generational. I'd tend towards the latter based on the evidence to date because that is always the most likely scenario based on the odds of making it as a premier league player.

...and involvement are we seeing and expect from him? Let’s hear comparisons and no fence sitting. Does he have a future in the first team? Barkley level impact? Or just a Tom Davies? Or will be one of the countless academy graduates to ply their trade at lower levels, à la Kieran Dowell, John...

    Everton Youth Teams Thread

No @Eggs you are incorrect - the system now which our club have to adapt is wrong playing just local teams in regions etc - I gave a detailed a fair view - Osman had a boot problem one leg higher than the other read his book - the club eventually made special boots for him - Derby county fans...
