Finch Farm pitches

Feel this needs its own thread.

The amount of serious muscular injuries we pick up on training is not normal and has been an issue going back to about 2008/09. At first it was easy to blame the medical staff, but numerous medical teams have come and gone and the issue has never resolved. Likewise with managers, we can’t blame any specific training methods as it seems to transcend managers as well. The voodoo curse under the floorboards of Goodison theory has also been put to bed this year, with the problem continuing to persist long after leaving. At what point does somebody at the club start to think about investigating the training pitch surfaces?
Sigh

Well, I can tell you that the person ultimately responsible for the pitches at FF prior to this season is now responsible for the pitch at the new stadium as of this season

So if our players start snapping hamstrings all over the place down at HD, you may be on to something

I suspect not, however

To be fair they train at Finch Farm every day and only play at HD once every other week, so I don’t think it’s going to even out in that sense.

I don't think Mike has gone far enough here, in all honesty.

  1. What's in the tea at FF?
  2. Are the stools high enough in the changing room?
  3. Or too high?
  4. Is it haunted?

Potato field training pitches surely a thing of the past? With all the investments over the years surely one of these managers and medical teams would have pointed out the dodgy pitches by now?

There's something behind this but I don't think it's on the grass.

….not sure how many posters have been on FF pitches but it surprised me how firm they are. They wouldn’t have suited me, I always preferred a pitch with plenty of give in them. The surface actually replicates those on PL grounds.

Personally, I’d think the general firmness of pitches these days contributes to knee, ankle injuries rather than hamstrings.

Just rushed here to remind folk of all the awards we've won as a forum

It’s because of introspective threads such as this, that encourage outside of the box and critical logical thinking, that makes this place so special. There are many valuable lessons one can take away from this thread, one of which being that Pitch Inspector isn’t a real job.

Wouldn't actually be surprised if they ripped the pitch up and started again at HD next season (although I don't know that for sure). Staff did absolutely loads of research for a tender process on who to contract the pitch itself out to. Did a presentation on all the pros and cons, only for the club to simply say - “just pick the cheapest” - this was under the previous ownership, so not sure if there's any scope for this to change.

To give you some form of comfort, you'd be amazed at the science and levels of geekiness which goes into the pitch preparation etc.

The person ultimately responsible for our pitch at HD and, until recently, FF isn't actually much of a football fan but there's isn't a single thing he couldn't tell you about grass.

I’m fully aware of all of this. But apparently pitch inspections aren’t a thing and it’s hilarious to suggest as such. The internet’s number 1 homoerotic educational Everton fans forum.

Youre right, pitches are ultimately a replication of PL standard pitches, but managers can have input into how much water there is and, to a very small degree, the length of the grass - nothing like in years gone by, however.
