2025/26 Charly Alcaraz

Must say I’m somewhere in between here.

I think it’s quite clear he’s far more effective as a ten, but at the same time it’s not really excusable how poor he looks out wide/how badly he switches off.

I do think he carries far more threat than KDH as a 10 at the same time, but also offers very little off the ball at times (he was admittedly good against Palace at pressing however, but circumstances suited him).

It’s a bit of an issue now, finding our strongest 11. Nice problem to have though arguably.

He’s a better option out of possession as well

So sell one of the worst fullbacks in the league! Sound easy. There should be a whole lot of teams trying to take him off our hands. Which team wouldn't like to pay money for one of the worse players in the league. Id prefer realism to hyperbole, but you do you.
That’s my opinion of the player, clearly it’s not Moyes’s so he shouldn’t have a problem selling him.

….we know his central cameo was excellent last time and no10 looks like his best position but it doesn’t excuse poor performance when he’s asked to do a different job for the team.

It’s not as if he’s being switched to CB. For all we praised him against Palace, he does struggle with the basics when the opposition have possession. He’s a ball watcher and rarely goes with a runner. I can see why he rarely starts.

He shouldn’t be excused for not doing his job in wide position.
Back to the Alcaraz who does my head in again today. Wrong decisions most of the time he got the ball. Incredible how he seems to be the one who drives us forward when he's the 10, but out wide he's the one who kills the momentum of attacks with poor decision making.

He just can't play wide. He's a 10 and nothing else.

I don't necessarily blame him for today, it's nothing different to what he's shown when playing wide before so I tend to blame Moyes for having him in the team in that role.

KDH doesn’t create anywhere near enough to be a 10. Charly should be given a few games in that role. Also the one player who threads the ball through where Beto might actually score. For me it’s about whether we persist with Beto. If we do then Charly has to be the 10. Personally id play KDH as an 8. He works incredibly hard and that’s where I think he would be most effective. Garner can solve our right back problem and Rohle/ Gana can play alongside KDH.

I think he is the best option behind the striker atm. If we can get Charly, Jack and Illy (firing like he did today on the creative and crossing front), we can compensate for the lack of fullback play. I think we will struggle with KDH at 10 unless he improves his creativity in the final 3rd. He is too safe there and no reason he can't be sliding passes like Illy did today. I'd personally play him deeper and sit Garner at RB so we can move Jake back central.

The only time Moyes will try Charly at 10 & KDH at 8 is when injuries/suspensions/AFCON force his hand.

We have been here before. 🥱
KDH can't play in a 2 man midfield. Hasn't got the defensive nous for it. All of his best form in his career has been as the left sided number 8 in a 433. Seen so many shouts for him to play deeper in a 4231 but he's really not good there at all. He does all of his best work in attacking situations, which is why he's playing as a 10 a lot.
