2026 FIFA World Cup

With the way the ICE force is being deployed, will the people in the stands be there at gunpoint like how russia made sure their sporting spectacle appeared supported? Also...
...Remember when the most embarrassing thing about chelsea was john terry turning up on stage to collect a trophy he hadn't appeared in a final for? Who knew it'd be surpassed...

(on inspecting that pic, I wonder what opinion D-Hall has re herr pres).

I won't be going so the 'dynamic' ticket price rip-off won't affect me. I would think a good few games will be as weakly attended as the CWC, with fans who do attend funnelled into sections of the ground where they can be picked up by TV cameras.

I'll watch a few games but due to the time difference I won't be staying out of bed past midnight to watch the build up and then the match between Uzbekistan and Jordan, for example, (or England or anyone else). I'll just watch the highlight shows the TV companies put together each day. If the TV companies don't put any highlight shows together I'll just choose a few of the games played earlier in the day (early evening, here) but not all.

I love the world cup and get excited for it every time but I have to say the edge has been taken off it a bit for me with the expansion to 48 teams.

I'll watch it and hope im wrong but I just think it'll be a huge bloated competition full of crap teams and virtually unwatchable games

I'm all for more matches, and I don't really care if some of the teams are rubbish, as every match feels like a big deal by default when it's the World Cup.

There's also more potential for the odd mad upset simply because there will be more teams from random nations competing.

I think some European fans can be quite selfish when it comes to dismissing smaller nations competing. similar to the turned-up noses towards the club world cup. Sure its a money grab but it gives millions of people in other nations the same buzz that we've taken for granted for decades.

More matches, more fun... they can buff it out to 64 teams for all I care!

That said if Cape Verde get pumped 10-0 every match i might change my mind.

It’s too many teams and will dilute the competition early on. There is no way around that unfortunately. It’s football so something silly will happen and everyone will use that to justify it.

Cape Verde might look pretty competent compared to some of the CONCACAF sides and teams like Jordan.
