Match Thread Wolves v Everton (Carabao Cup 3rd Round) 23rd September 19:45

because we paid money for him to be a cup keeper i presume

also if pickford does pick up a knock he’d come in, so he will have to play agsinst much better sides than wolves

id rather he had some time playing competitive games if that were to happen
If we have paid money for him to be a cup keeper, there's your problem straight away. We HAVE to start giving the cups the respect they merit. I see Travers as the number two. He comes in with the number one is injured. Anything else means we are taking liberties with the only two competitions we can plausibly win.

Strongest team, please.

You wouldn't pick Travers over Pickford for a league game, so why do that for the cup?

This squad is not getting relegated and is likely not getting Europe via the league. The cups represent our best chance of glory this season. Until Everton starts competing to win things again, we are wasting our time. By the time we do get ourselves ready to properly achieve things via the league, our mentality will have been further eroded.

We should be winning this game tomorrow. The best way to make sure we follow through on our favouratism is by picking our best side. The team selection, therefore, will be insightful.

i would also argue that staying unbeaten at BMD for as long as possible seems more important than a cup game in which we’ll inevitably face a side from europe that have all been kept apart from each othrr

If you're going to be that defeatist, why enter the competition at all?

I have confidence in Travers to do a job. I just have no time for weakening our side significantly in the competitions we can actually win. Travers in tomorrow with, say, two other changes shouldn't be a huge issue. We either trust them or we don't. But let's not treat this competition with contempt.

We all know what's coming...

003 WOLEVE .webp

Their confidence is on the floor for this one with us triumphing there a few weeks ago.
Sitting bottom, they will want to concentrate on the league.
They are an open door in the inside left channel at the back and their keeper is indecisive and vulnerable.

Wolves 0 - Everton 5

Travers
Coleman O'Brien Keane Aznou

Dibling McNeil Ndiaye

A tad optimistic but I like it

i think rules forbid us from not haha

no i agree mate, i want us to go as far as we can in the competition and did think this thread would spark some debate around selection

i agree we go strong. but i think given we’ve just had an intense 90 mins against the league leaders a couple of fresh faces may actually be a stronger side than our typical strongest XI

not advocating wholesale changes. i don’t want to see the likes of coleman , mcneil, iroegbunam etc. but i do think Dibling and Alcaraz deserve a chance. keeps things fresh and means if we do need them on Monday night and beyond they have minutes in their legs and minds. i also think it’s good management to give those type of players on the cusp of the starting XI an opportunity in early rounds of the cup. theres a risk of losing morale there

also the team has moved on from last year. Alcaraz and Dibling would be starters last year, and that team from janauary onwards was in the top 6 for form. i think them coming in would will be more than enough to beat these

i hazard a guess they will also make more changes than us, we could likely be playing the B team of the bottom of the league

i don’t know if anyone agrees but i also think winning as many games at BMD in the first season is a priority for me, especially on reflection just how bad our form was in the final year at Goodison.

all moot anyway, Moyes will pick his team and that’s that

Didn't see that coming

I want to see Barry, Dibbling and alcaraz starting. Starting one of Ndiaye or Greilish with the ideal scenario us being that far ahead we can bring McNeil on. Got to use the squad, these are good players still

I'd like to see Dibling, Aznou, Merlin and Barry all get good minutes behind them. Hope we win but I care more about winning that West Ham game.
