Match Thread Wolves v Everton (Carabao Cup 3rd Round) 23rd September 19:45

Vaughan

Player Valuation: £15m
Hoping for a big bounceback from the blues

I think we’ll put out a close to full strength side, but I would like to see starts for Dibling and Alcaraz, I also think Travers should get a start too. KDH is on 4 yellows so would make sense to rest him for one of Tyler or Charley, or even Rohl if he’s fit.

These are the worst side in the league and I wouldn’t be surprised if they made more changes than us. They’re already in a dog fight, so I think this game is already less important to them than us and I think we can afford to make those changes and still win.

It’s important to keep your squad players happy too especially those who are ‘banging on the door’ for a place in the side. I would start Grealish but be inclined to rest KDH and NDyiaye.

I imagine Mykolenko will also be assessed as to whether he can handle another 90 mins straight away.

0-2 Everton. Barry and Alcaraz

Hope we play our strongest team, want to win this game & its about time we won this cup.

if we can’t beat Wolves with Dibling and Charly playing we may as well pack in the season

it’s not like anyone we’d bring in would be Francisco Junior level

we also played a derby a couple days ago. someone like ndiaye has visibly tired against villa and liverpool, played international games recently, got a knock etc. dibling may actually be ready to play at a higher level if ndiaye is a bit goosed

If I were in charge.. go 4-3-3: -

Pickford

O'Brien -- Keane -- Tarks -- Myko

Rohl
---- Garner ----- KDH

Dibling ---- Ndiaye ---- Grealish

Chances are though that Barry, Alcaraz and perhaps McNeil will be starting in the usual 4-2-3-1.
.

Strongest team, please.

You wouldn't pick Travers over Pickford for a league game, so why do that for the cup?

This squad is not getting relegated and is likely not getting Europe via the league. The cups represent our best chance of glory this season. Until Everton starts competing to win things again, we are wasting our time. By the time we do get ourselves ready to properly achieve things via the league, our mentality will have been further eroded.

We should be winning this game tomorrow. The best way to make sure we follow through on our favouratism is by picking our best side. The team selection, therefore, will be insightful.

Must win game this, but also option to rotate a little.... of course, depends on all people being fit, but would love to see:

Pickford
Garner JOB Keane/Tarks Myko
Rohl KDH
Dibling Alcaraz Grealish
Barry

I know Travers will likely play (which I am not a fan of tbh), but would like to see the likes of Gana and Ndiaye given a rest and see JOB in his right place.

Also think Barry needs to start. Expect we could also see McNeil starting instead of Grealish.... which I hope not.

Will be interesting to see what Wolves side plays, as with their start I am not sure they will want cup distractions going forward.... Spurs away on Saturday night and likely 0 points after 6 games they are going to have to put all their focus and efforts into EPL it seems.

I think the squad strength should now be at a level where we can make changes and still be putting out a good side. I'm not a massive fan of just making changes for the sake of it but some players have had heavy workloads and could do with the rest, and others could really do with the minutes. If we don't see Aznou tomorrow I'd start to wonder whether we'll see him at all.

It is, but you just know if we get through this one that we get one of the sky 6 away in the last 16.

Edit to add... well 5, as United are already out..... if they are still classed as one of these anyhow
Very likely, but each game as it comes.

Everton might not be 30 years without a trophy had we actually won the matches against the lower-league and inferior sides we were drawn against over the last three decades.

The Sky Six are not the problem. Losing on penalties at home to the likes of Fulham when we had a pen to win it and crashing out to lower league sides has been the bigger issue.

Have a good opportunity here. Need a strong side. We were considerably better than them in the league game despite the final score.

They are probably already in crisis mode and fretting about possible injuries affecting league games so we should just go at them, I don't think they will fancy it at all if they go behind.

Their confidence is on the floor for this one with us triumphing there a few weeks ago.
Sitting bottom, they will want to concentrate on the league.
They are an open door in the inside left channel at the back and their keeper is indecisive and vulnerable.

because we paid money for him to be a cup keeper i presume

also if pickford does pick up a knock he’d come in, so he will have to play agsinst much better sides than wolves

id rather he had some time playing competitive games if that were to happen
