Virtually every day of my secondary school life, I’d go into that chippy. For me and everybody else we had half a tin loaf, we took the middle out leaving the crust and hand it in. It was filled with chips with a ladle of curry. Crazy to think of that as a diet but I suppose we burned it off playing sport;

What school did you go to eggs ? We use to have the same dinner but it was Cardinal Godfrey on Breckfield Road South.
Not sure if that was the same chippy

I wondered where that term came from. I spent a happy postgraduate year there that coincided with the 1984-5 League title, but never realised that the Victoria Building was its origin.

….i was aware Liverpool University is officially one of the ‘red brick universities’ but like you, I didn’t know the term originated from that stunning building. My own daughter got her degree in medicine from there.
