That’s the point we wouldnt resort to that stupid style of football with him up top we’d play it on the ground more
I don’t know if we would. I’ve said this before but in general our tendency to knock the ball long is often much more to do with a lack of passing ability at the back and players not finding space ahead of the ball than it is to deliberately play with a target man.

Should have kept DCL and Chermiti
We need the calibre of a DCL CF - one who can hold the ball up link the midfield & head a ball - neither of our no 9s can do that as it just comes back via lack of control even if we did not hoof the ball they would lose possession too easily - the Irish lad who is scoring needs to be on the bench - & DM needs to substitute more quickly those substitutes should have come on when we got a goal back 7 minutes?
What chance does it give them ?

At this stage, despite his deficiencies, Beto gives us the best chances. He’s certainly stronger and more disruptive.
He's horrible as a link player and we will never improve with him as our no9.
Barry looks raw in the handful of minutes he has had so far but already he has been able to take the ball in and build possession, something Beto has never been able to and likely never will be able to do for us.

Can’t disagree with any of that. It’s whether Moyes will take that kind of risk, as he sees it, and go all in on Barry. I think it would take more of a decline in form in Beto than an improvement in Barry to convince him. Personally, I’m thrilled any time I see Moyes substitute in our new lads. It’s a breath of fresh air.

I would like us try Ndiaye up top with Dibling on the right for one game

Yeah I think Moyes needs to try something a little different when he plays away to top 6 as his record at all the clubs he's managed is not good at all. Even when at Man. United they kept losing to everyone who finished in the top 6 away.

So false nine of Ndiaye with Dibling and Grealish in support as the season goes on is worth trialling. Wonder what he'll do at Man. City in a few weeks as Grealish won't be available with it being a loan.

I think with Barry it's a bit of language barrier and settling in. And Beto did well for Moyes at the start so probably more trust.

However league cup and then two winnable home games before international break is good time to give Barry three starts and see how he looks in them.

I don't think we've really figured out yet a way of playing to really get the strikers involved. We know Beto is incredibly rough around the edges and that Barry is still getting up to speed, but they both have pedigree of scoring double figures in top European leagues and we know from last season that Beto can score goals in this league with the right service.

Against the RS, we really struggled to sustain anything in the final third and we consistently made the wrong decisions which led to us handing over possession very cheaply even when we were well on top in the second half. Nothing stuck with Beto in the first half but in the second we didn't keep the ball alive well enough in the final third for Barry to get involved in the game so whilst we played much better we still didn't really carry much threat.

I don't think the balance of the team is quite right yet and the issue is more than just the striker. The fullbacks are definitely a bigger problem in my book. Mykolenko is only just back and probably not full fit but given how Grealish slows the game down we need him to be making constant overlaps so Grealish doesn't become predictable. Equally on the other side O'Brien is really doing the best he can but it just isn't his game, and teams are doubling up on NDiaye.

We're very much still clicking, and we are going to have to be patient.

I've liked the look of Barry, until today. He was miles off it. Second to every ball played up, his anticipation seemed so off. When he did get a touch on it, it bounced off him. A carbon copy of Beto, just younger. Hope he comes good though.

Time for Barry to give a run of games I think. I like Beto, but I think if we are going to progress we need more from our striker.

Still find it strange we didn’t bring another striker in especially as we let Chermiti go, not that he’d have started anyway.
