Match Thread Liverpool V Everton 20th September 12:30

This was solid until the Beto bit. And I do know what you mean, he ran against Villa and gets into spaces.

He HAS To improve his goal-scoring, or at least turning chances into making the keeper work. Not good enough and costly, despite the point you make which is true and I agree with.

But this lad's starting to wear me out like DCL. Brutal truth is he ain't good enough and if Barry's the plan he needs minutes
I think Mr. Pen was referring to Beto’s two games v Liverpool last season, he scored at Goodison and worried Van Djke throughout the game, did the same in the first half at Anfield where he lost one goal to Liverpool’s 12th. man VAR and was unlucky with another effort and had Van Djke worried again until the second half when Moyes went for the draw and hardly attacked in that second period.

For me same team as Villa but maybe Myko in for Tim (and Garner to CM) or Rohl in for Tim and Garner at LB - obvs depends on fitness of Myko.

For me, Tim should only be coming on for Gana or KDH as he doesn't have the discipline Gana needs next to him... we're basically playing him out of position (if that makes sense).

Beto needs to start, we know he should and normally is up for this battle.

Moyes needs to make all 5 subs and start making them in the 60-65 min range, not 2 subs in the 70-75 min range. and they should be like for like unless we're doing some mad tactical changes (as in Alcaraz for KDH or Gana, Rohl for Garner/Gana/KDH, Tim for KDH or Gana, Barry for Beto, Dibbling for Ndaiye/Grelish/KDH, Branthwaite (fi fit) for Keane/Tarks, Seamus for O'Brien, McNeil for Grelish/KDH/Ndaiye, Aznou for Myko - it shouldn't be difficult).

They've looked quite rubbish this season but have won every game. Robertson and Kerkez at LB is a target for Ndiaye, we should be trying to get down that channel as much as possible or at least indicate we are which will hopefully then leave space for Grealish on the other. We can definitely get at them and I hope we dont poo our pants like we usually do at Anfield.

I write these games off every year, it’s just 6 points. I would rather player a weakened team and focus on beating others as historically nothing ever goes for us in a derby.

The however for me will be they have a tough game away tomorrow night and then will prob have Thursday off which will mean they are only in for one day of training on Friday before they play us on Saturday. Should it work in our favour, yes, will it, probably not.

I hope Myko is back on the left which will allow Garner to replace Tim. Beto needs to be rough against VVD and Grealish and N’Diaye need to do their stuff. We defo have a chance but everything seems to be going their way at the moment.

I hope we go toe to toe with them. They look weak in the full back areas and you can get at them. Think if the game plan is to just defend for the 90+ minutes they will just end up getting another late winner eventually.

I'd like to see more signs we are progressing as a team and not just going there to sit in.
I think there's a big middle ground between those options that we need to aim for. If we go toe to toe with them the chances are they beat us quite comfortably both because they're considerably better than us and because tactically that would be ideal for them because of the space it would leave. We can't just camp at the edge of our box though, we need to offer a threat of our own and give them plenty to think about while not falling into the trap of overcommitting and letting them pick us off.
