2025/26 Michael Keane

Nobody wants prime Maldini for 4th choice, they want someone who wasn't averaging conceding 3 goals a game when he was playing, let's not get into hyperbole like other posters do.
Looking at keanes games last season and this he’s played 19 games and we’ve conceded 22. So averaging over a full season that is 44 goals we concede, only 3 teams conceded less last season and they’re all in the top four. So nowhere near averaging 3 goals a game

I was one of the wanting him gone but he ended last season very good, he’s started this season very good and he deserves credit from us fans for doing so.

That said first mistake he makes the haters will hyper focus on that and say how terrible he is despite the previous good performances whilst if it was a fan favourite it’s ahh mistakes happen no hard feelings.

Genuine question, what is the 3 goals a game stat? I’ve seen it mentioned quite a few times but I seem to have missed the actual facts. Is that really what we’ve averaged over his time here? Surely not?
Up to half way through his time under Dyche we averaged 2.9 goals a game conceded when he played or something close. I'd have to dig it out. Its real. Lampard was a thing too.

I'll have to dig it out. He's got better, and im glad for that. He's definitely earned a little bit of leeway from me.

Over his whole time here? Or do you mean if you just look at a completely arbitrary number of games in the middle of his time here to make it sound worse? By my reckoning we conceded 44 in 23 when he started under dyche, which obviously isn’t great but isn’t even 2 a game nevermind 3.

So the players playing closest to our goal made more mistakes leading to goals than those further away? Wow, that’s scarcely believable is it? Genuinely astonishing insight.
Yeah, that's why famously only goalies can make mistakes leading to goals and literally no one else. AsToNiShInG InSiGhT indeed.

Anyway, he's doing fine and I'm glad he's turning it around sort of, but he's been awful for so long that he should never be anything more than a backup at this point.

If you really think defenders making more mistakes which lead to goals than attackers is a surprise then I really don’t know what to say to be honest. Good jaunty caps though, I remember 2010 well.

You're way past the time to try and make a career in comedy mate.

No idea what attackers you've involved now as it was previously only keepers that can make mistakes, I'm giving you a stat that you can use 2 min of your own time to check that he makes as many mistakes and errors in 5-10 games as his counterparts in Branthwaite and Tarkowski make in 30-40, which is why he was essentially benched for years. He was okay for 2 seasons when he came in but he's been shaky and lacking confidence for years now.

To put it in your boomer terms - "he doesn't pass the eye test if you watch", as you'll see any team we played in the last 2 year targetting him and his shakiness and poor positioning.

Just the same logic you've applied in the Beto thread - he's never been good so he'll never be good and these 4 games aren't the norm, basically.

Stat was worked out a year ago. From his entire time here playing at least half the match 2.56 goals a game. Without him, 1.24 goals a game.

You’re misunderstanding again, you’re good at that at least. I never mentioned goalkeepers at all, you’ve just that made up to make yourself feel better. I’m not a boomer. I never said Keane was good or that this was his normal form, annd that was absolutely nothing like my logic in the Beto thread (I even said as much in so many words, twice). Apart from that, another 10/10 post from you.

Also yes I know its Reddit and might be wrong, and not laying the boot in as he's been really steady so far, and yes its cherry picked:

I’m genuinely surprised by that, mainly because like I say it’s less than 2 goals a game over about the last 3 years which means it must have been significantly more than that prior to dyche taking over, which is absolutely horrifying.

There were some absolute lumpings under Lampard.

Looking at the numbers its so pleasing to see him turning it around. Everyone loves a comeback story, they're my favourite anyway. If he ends up making another mistake in the near future, I will be gutted for him. He's a confidence player, he will feel like he's hit the bottom.

People always have their own personal relatable stories to footy players and my own sporting "career" is relatable to Keanes, I was basically a 'choker', did the hard yards and failed when it mattered, and mentally its incredibly tough. I am genuinely enjoying his resurgence but im worried if he's mentally strong enough.

A lot of credit should be given to Moyes by the way. He's turned Keane and Beto around since joining. Quality man management.
