Moyes-substitutions

I’m not having a go at Moysie here, I really like the guy , but does anybody else think he leaves it to late to change things . Alcaraz, McNeil and Dibling not brought on . Villa were there for the taking and we dropped 2 points . Roll on Saturday eh

Yep, he's too old school in this respect. We finally have strong bench options; we should use them. Ndiaye was knackered the last third of the game. Think players will also start to become disillusioned if they think the first XI remains on the pitch the entire game unless someone is crocked.

…..there’s always something to pick holes in with any manager and this seems the latest for Moyes.

What he has to do is assess the match situation, players are set doing jobs against their opposite numbers and there’s always risk of that breaking down when you make a change.

Thought the changes were obvious on Saturday, beyond that Moyes will be monitoring Dibling and maybe feels he’s not ready to unleash yet. He’s in charge and is firm minded to stick to what he feels is right, it’s been working just fine.

Grealish, Dewsbury-Hall and N'diaye were all causing Villa problems, I wouldn't have taken any of them off yesterday.

I wouldn't say it's picking holes, it's just commenting on what you see. It's a results business, if you don't get the result you want then you will always look at what you could have done differently, it's natural. Nobody's saying he needs to be sacked for not making another sub, just giving their own opinions on what could have been done differently and how that might have changed the way things played out.

If we had been a couples goals up, as we should have been, I think he may have given him 15/20 mins. Not as easy as it seems to make changes.

I've noticed a couple posters mention that the better players were on the pitch so why replace them? But I believe that's not the point of substitutions, they exist to provide various benefits such as injecting a different profile of player that can offer other attributes, a fresh player that can disorient tiring defenders and sometimes even good attackers on the pitch who aren't necessarily doing anything wrong get into a routine where for some reason it's just clicking for the end product so you need to switch things up. As good as we were overall I never thought we were going to score. I get Moyes is risk averse at times but in those situations I think it would of benefited us to have someone like Alacarez on.

Moyes has always been stuck in his subs ways, but.... we only drew cos Beto can't finish. We win that with a decent striker, we will be still saying this in 2044, i just know it.

So he brings on Dibling, Alcaraz and McNeil and one of them gives the ball away and leads to a villa goal then what?

You’d have people moaning at Moyes for not keeping Ndiaye, KDH and Grealish on the pitch
I’m sure there would be, Personally, I pin the loss on the players. There were plenty of chances for us to score but no luck. My only criticism is I thought he could have gone for it more with fresh legs and the quality we have on the bench. If we lost I’d have still faulted the players but over the long haul I think we’d come out ahead.

If normally we finish the games
With a 20/60/20 W/D/L ratio by playing tighter

If that shifts to a 35/30/35 ratio or even a 45/0/55 ratio. We go from 1.2 to 1.35 pts per game. If we went to a 40/30/30 we’d be at 1.5 ppg.

I know each game needs to be judged individually and not advocating a reckless go for it approach. Just pointing out that you can accept more losses if you get more wins and be ahead overall

Alcaraz would have been at the expense of Ndiaye, Grealish or KDH

He isn't as good as any of them at either the attacking or defensive side of the game. Ditto McNeil.

Bringing either of them on makes us weaker and it's going to be a long season if every time we need a goal, people start shouting "get Alcaraz on" - only time I want to see Alcaraz in the team is if we are playing away from home against a team we need to defend deep against as he's useful in the transition. Otherwise, he simply makes the team weaker than Grealish, Ndiaye or KDH being on the pitch.

I don't mind Alcaraz, but he's not the answer when you're trying to break a team down.
So based on your statement, Alcaraz should be start vs Liverpool?
Think Moyes will do this?

Also if this was the case why would anyone make subs? The starters usually are “The Better Players”. Everything else is spot on
