What a difference a year makes, really solid game against a good side. Should have won it really.

Still missing a clinical finisher that’s evident. Though on reflection I don’t think Beto’s chances were as easy as they looked at the stadium. Keane, what’s happened and who has replaced you? Arguably best player of the season behind Grealish and Ndiaye.

Thought Grealish was trying a little too hard to make things happen yesterday, held onto the ball longer than he needed to a few times. Hard to keep up with the amazing form he’s been in.

Also a quick note. Villa are by far the most snide horrible side in the league by some distance. Cynical fouls, whinging, and time wasting that made the total ball in play time feel like 15 minutes. Real nasty side under Emery, unlikeable bunch.
Dont kid yourself…this is not a good Villa side..these are 2 points lost…

It's all about progress really.

Wed have lost this game last season, this year we're disappointed with a point

Shows we're going inthe right direction
These are the games were our strikers will cost us, we will probably be competing with the likes of Villa for 8-10th. To and Barry will cost us these places.

Finished 6th last year in the league , 4th the year before. Should have arguably got through against PSG in that second leg champions league quarter final this year. Favourites for the Europa League.

Yeah they’ve had a bad window but they’re a good side still.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet. We’re a point up from the same fixture last year. Let’s take the small positives.

100%. I liked the way we pushed up for that free kick at the very end with Pickford launching it in from near the halfway line. Under Dyche he'd probably have been back in his goal with one of our midfielders passing the ball back to him to run the clock down. It was also strangely refreshing to see how Villa (Martinez especially) were keen to waste time from the very start such was their respect for us and they seemed satisfied with a draw from pretty early on.
Yeah, early as it is in the season, I think Villa were just after a draw to stop the rot, and will have always seen it as a good away point. They had little interest in anything going forward (bar a brief phase early in the 2nd half), and just looked to stifle us. Almost Dyche-like, you could say.

I’d keep starting Keane and sub in Branthwaite late in matches, if necessary, until he’s up to full fitness. It may seem controversial, but I like the defence with Keane and Branthwaite. Branners has been fragile quite a bit and missing a lot of matches. And Keane is in good form. Set himself up nicely for a few header attempts.

Just out of interest, I wonder if anybody knows the last time in professional football, there was 2 foul throws awarded in a single game against the same team.

It was quite incredible - virtually every game you'll see has unpunished foul throws all over the shop, but that beaut was determined we couldn't get the ball back into play until Villa had composed themselves.
