2025/26 Iliman Ndiaye

Harder not to qualify for international tournaments nowadays they're so grossly bloated for greed

Yep

Just give the top nations in each one a guaranteed bye to begin with and then let the smaller nations fight it out

If you perform poorly at a tournament then you’re back in the quals

Then have a once a year mini tournament for the top nations to play each other for ranking points and to test out squads

Having 3 breaks before Xmas is ridiculous

Would be a shame if he didn’t make it, but if not, what a joy to have VIABLE ALTERNATIVES!!!
Nothing joyful about Illy not being there. The man has carried the attack and now has someone on par to play with. DH is a great support act to have and others but lose bigtime with him out. He'll be remebered for more than just the last and first.

Some good ideas there Vaughan. I used to love the qualifying games in the old days when there was genuine jeopardy for the top sides to maybe miss out on a tournament but now like the nations league they're just glorified friendlies where theres no drama involved

I didn’t say there was anything joyful about him being out. I said there was joy in us having viable alternatives.

Sorry… VIABLE ALTERNATIVES.

I know what you mean mate but players would stop signing for us very quickly if they stopped getting international recognition.
I know, I was serious but I know it's not a realistic aspiration! It's interesting how things have changed around with players of less successful nations. In the nineties there was a real problem getting players who were capped by nations with little chance of international success to turn out for their international teams if they played for the big clubs, they would always seem to have a "knock" just before the international breaks. Whereas now it seems that most players will endanger their club prospects to play for their national teams. It also seems to be inversely correlated with fans interest in internationals as, it seems to me at least, that the average fan is now more invested in their club side than in international football (of course that may just be here in England, flag hangers excepted). I am fed up with players coming back from internationals injured, though, with N'Diaye being the latest in a long line.

If he misses the game it'll be because Moyes has chosen to leave him out.

Manager's do this when they know they have a balance in mind for a game and one player doesn't fit the game plan. They wont want to say that so they say they have a slight knock and might not make it. We'll see more of this given our attacking options now. Either that or Moyes will probably want to rest him given Ndiaye has played two games for his country.
