Beeb noticing Everton…..veiled hit piece or genuine reporting….

It's just nice that things have improved and there is positivity.

This time a year ago the Friedkin takeover has not been announced, we were battling down the hatches for another relegation battle, there was no money, and little to no hope, apart from the new stadium. I thought that whilst it would be completed, we might end up as tenants.

I think it was September 23rd the takeover was announced and December 19th it was completed.

There has been a huge amount of change since then. Pretty much all of it has been for the better to date.

We have a lot of work remaining - it will require another 2 or 3 or windows in my view to turn us into a club that could aspire for Europe each year.

But I can't really fault TFG thus far. Not really. The test will be if we can improve year on year - both on the field and off it. I view success in relative rather than absolute terms these days but we have to aspire to achieve Champions League qualification. We have to be a disruptor in this league and then maintain it - I'm looking at clubs like Atalanta and Atletico Madrid as examples.
to batten*

The progress in under 12 months has been startling, agreed.

The other thing about this record spend is the 9 players who left also took a huge amount off that wage bill. They were all on Moshiri era contracts (looking at you DCL and Doucoure). So it's not just transfer spend, it's that we can now offer players decent wages versus other clubs. I think signing Branthwaite to a 5 year deal was partly due to cutting all that wage bill

I am not reading it as in any way critical, just a factual piece about where we are and where we have been. It does though seem to sound a warning, to me, that the process has started and it cannot be allowed to stop otherwise we will end up back in the same place we were under Moshiri.

I think it's a good piece.

The net spend is pretty stark to read but when you think about it Carlo relied on most of the group signed under Silva and even Koeman so squad that was signed from summer 2017-19.

Then as much as we also despised FSW his summer transfer budget consisted of Gray and Townsend for what 5m between them? And Rondon as a last minute season loan. Spent more in the January on Myko who regardless of opinion on ability has remained a first choice under three different managers over three years later and Van de Beek and El Ghazi were just loans. Dele signed on the 18 month deal aswell.

Summer 2022 was having to sell Richi early to pay the PSR bills and eventually Onana came in to get the net spend close to equal, infact it might've been but McNeill was only about 8m initially? Garner wasn't that much either.

Summer 2023 had Iwobi and Gray moving for 40m combined which was great business for two mediocre players for this club who didn't really need to be replaced that much.

It's been plenty of pain to go through but now the first 11 is starting to take serious shape with more to come in January and next summer. I think the big question now is what you do with Grealish. Loan is completely the right move but ultimately he's going to be wanting a four year deal on huge wages if he plays well enough to go to the World Cup and the risk is he flatlines a bit once he hits 32/33. The flip side is with his overall reputation in the game you still make plenty off the pitch from his marketability.

The takeover by the Friedkin Group has been transformational, with Everton's crippling debts turned into equity, repaid or refinanced on more favourable terms.

We were paying over 10 million a year to service the loans under Moshiri. Those charges are gone this year. There's obviously going to be increased revenue from the stadium which is a massive asset.

We've maintained a good transfer balance for years of attrition from FFP. We've signed younger players on reasonable fees and with lower wages, apart from Grealish's loan deal being a one-off.

It's all going to keep going up.

It's going to take a long, long time of continual improvements before we get much air time from the media.
I listen to talksport a lot during the day, driving along. It's always the same clubs that take up 80% of talk time. Whole hours just on united sacking the tea ladies, or spurs getting rid of Daniel levy. Does my head in generally, but I've come to expect it.

Not really helped when you do have shows like the overlap fan debates and literally representing Everton we have Baz appearing around once in every 4-5 episodes. The lads at toffee TV either need to get their arse in gear more or other Everton fan 'figures' with sites need to be getting the invite instead.

The other clubs like the barcodes, Sland, Forest, etc have regular guys on a d often a few different people representing the club fan viewpoint.

It highlights how even though we were seen as 'spending a lot of money' over the Moshiri years, it wasent as much as others during that time.

Mental how we got punished for building a stadium
The big issue was not looking at net spend, but at wages paid mate, we were paying insanely for our overall spending in purchases.

Basically mine when moshiri first arrived we have a 2-3 year max window of opportunity.

The goal is to try to get into the top 5 and then to try to remain there.

Newcastle and villa both managed it - forest almost did, the past three seasons, all those clubs for a variety of reasons are this season in a bit of a mess (Newcastle may come out of it soonest) all three also have European games to contend with.

The RS, Arsenal both look solid - city are approaching the end of the Guardiola era so are vulnerable but still up there, Chelsea I'm unconvinced with but should be up there too, spurs appear to have put themselves back on track but Levy leaving will be a huge shakeup over there. United are an utter mess.

That's the key is to take advantage and get up there this season, then invest within the rules even bending them to stay there for a few seasons.
